Objectives:

 Introduce concept
 Share information and ideas about the concept

 Apply knowledge of sound-spellings to decode unknown words when reading.
 Decode and read words in context and independent of context.
 Practice fluency with oral reading.

 Identify the main idea of an expository text/article.
 Identify a topic
 Identify facts and details.
 Identify the author’s purpose

Standards:

1. Key ideas and details: ask and answer questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to
demonstrate understanding of key details in a text; describe how characters in a story respond
to major events and challenges; describe the connection between a series of historical events,
scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text.
2. Integration of knowledge and Ideas: use information gained from illustrations and words in a
print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting or plot.
3. Craft and Structure: determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text
Activities:

Students will:

 Use story stones to create a story ( English support class)


 Play a game called “Synonym Toast Crunch”. Students will look for the synonym of the words:
happy, beautiful, sad, like, little, big, love
 Find the definitions for the frequency words
 Create sentences using frequency words
 Read Little Red Riding Hood. They will make a main idea display using the trunk as the main idea
and the leaves as details.
 Create a camping environment in the classroom

High-frequency words: bear, build, couldn't, father, love, mother, straight

Grammar: Synonyms

Differentiated Instruction:

 Circulate and provide assistance


 Teach the lessons in small groups
 Vary the allotted lesson time by breaking up the lesson into two days, focusing on more
modeling examples in day one
 Choose a text for the test that is at the reading level of the students.
 Create several activities for students to choose from. They will pick the one that interests them
the most.
