● Students will define character values by taking cornell notes on characters’ values
during reading.
● Students will analyse their own values and apply that knowledge to others’ values
by writing from another character’s perspective.

characters in Hansberry’s play.

Learning Activities​:
Initiation​:
● (5 mins) Students will create their value list by choosing their top five values out
of a list of ten:
■ Honesty, Appearance, Faith, Knowledge, Power, Health, Wealth,
Community, Generosity, Individuality
○ They are encouraged to really consider what they value ​most, ​because we
all value the ten listed above
○ Students will know that there is no right answer, this is for them to help
see where their values lie.

Lesson Development:
● (30 mins) Listen to audio of ​A Raisin in the Sun​ pgs 62-91
○ Students will have character notes where they will claim the character’s
most important values while listening to the audio and following allow in
their texts.
● (10 mins)
○ Students will reflect in their notebooks about their values and the
characters who they relate with while looking at their character sheets.
