IV. Materials Needed:
 16 scarecrow hats (brown, orange, red, yellow)
 16 paper plates
 Construction paper
 Glue
 Googly eyes
 Multi-colored yarn
 16 craft sticks
 Ribbons
 Markers

V. Directions / Steps / Process [Parts A, B C]:

A. Motivation
I will enter the classroom with a mini scarecrow for the children to see. I will ask the children questions
about what the scarecrow and also explain the use of a scarecrow.

B. Steps
1. As the children are gathered in circle time, I will enter with my miniature scarecrow.
2. I will ask the children the following questions,
“Do you know what he is?”
“Do you know what he is used for?”
3. I will then explain to the children that they will be making their own scarecrow.
4. One at a time, I will ask each child to go to their seat.
5. I will let the children choose the color of their hat, then provide each student with a paper plate.
6. I will have the children place their plate’s facedown and glue the hats to the top edge of their plate.
7. I will instruct the children to glue on googly eyes and the yarn for hair.
8. I will give each child a triangular nose from construction paper and glue it on their scarecrow.
9. I will encourage the children to add a smile with any color marker.
10. I will give the children two more triangles to make a collar to hang off the bottom of their plate and
two circles to make cheeks.
11. I will help each child place a ribbon into a bow and glue it onto the bottom edge of their plate.
12. I will tell the children to flip over their plate and attach a jumbo craft stick to the bottom of their
plate with tape.

C. Conclusion and Transition

Conclusion
When the scarecrow puppets are complete, I will teach students the poem and encourage them to use
their scarecrow puppets to act out the story.

Transition
The children will take their scarecrows and bring them back to the circle area.
