• DESCRIPTION
This document describes how to determine which DSE controller type is suitable for the engine
you require it to control. If you don’t already know, you need to determine whether the engine you
have is a CAN engine (with electronic engine ECU) or a traditional engine (with speed governor). If
you don’t know, you should contact your engine supplier.
Where specified as MPU variant, the modules are for connection to traditional engines only. The
connection of a magnetic pickup is optional, required only where an AC main alternator is not
fitted.
Some controller types are fitted with both MPU and ECU interfaces, enabled / disabled by PC
Configuration Software. These modules are suitable for both CAN engines and Traditional
Engines.
Some engines, notably some of the Cummins Engines, are fitted with an engine ECU supporting
the modbus protocol. These engines are NOT compatible with CAN version controllers.
To interface with these engines you must have a DSE module with RS485 interface.
