Lesson Plan

Name: Cory Andrzejewski Date: 3/12/17

Grade/Class: 3rd Grade

1. Lesson Objectives: (measurable/observable, based on standards and

frameworks) Students will learn, create/suggest dynamics, and be able to
perform Ghost of Tom, and self evaluate their own performance with provided
rubric.

National Standards and Frameworks: MU:Pr5.1.3a - Apply teacher provided

and collaboratively developed criteria and feedback to evaluate accuracy of
ensemble performances. MU:Pr6.1.3a Perform music with expression and
technical accuracy.

2. Assessment: The Final Performance and Self Eval of Ghost of Tom. This eval
will ask how they did as a group, which once I see their feedback I can assess
not only how well they performed the piece, but also how well they can hear one
another.

3. Required prior knowledge/skills: Solfege handsigns(knowing what note to sing

when I do the handsign and mirroring it if they can/want to) Warm-Up
pieces/scales. Previously this year in line with MU:Pr5.1.3a we will have created
an agreed upon rubric for self eval.

4. Review and/or support for new skills needed: Review/Remind them of how to
sing whilst listening to each other for the eval.

5. Accommodations: (special needs and/ ELL) ELL- Write Agenda in Language

needed on board. Special Needs- Have Susan pass out the evaluation rubrics.
And keep an eye out to see if she needs to just take a walk or get a drink of
water(ADD). Make Sure Peter is in the front row(and the students are following
the seating chart) so he can see the warm-up notes/lyrics projected on the
board.(vision problems) Make sure you both verbally review the agenda on the
board; and you are direct, calm, clear, and concrete the entire lesson(no turns of
phrase) for Edmund’s sake.(ASD)

6. Materials, Repertoire, Equipment needed: PDFs of warm up songs(to put on

board), Hey-Ho, Ghost of Tom(just so I can have it in front of me), Projector,
Laptop.

7. Lesson Sequence:
A. Opening- Introduction, Go through the Agenda on the board, Warm-
Up[5-10 minutes]
B. Learning Activities and Pacing
1. Rote Songs:
a) Review Hey Ho- (project music up on the screen)[5-7 minutes]
a. Sing through it once after giving everyone a starting
pitch, and adjust for pitch/rhythm if needed.(keep beat
on your shoulder and maintain eye contact with
everyone)
b. Then sing it as intended as a 2 part round. Might have
to sing it twice just to get the timing correct.
b) Introduce Ghost of Tom by singing through it once.(turn off
viewing screen for this part)[5-10 minutes total]
a. Break it Down into 2 measure phrases(maintaining eye
contact with Edmund at least once per phrase, and
turning the viewing screen on so all of the students
including ELL can see the words that are being sung
split up in the phrases so they can focus on the notes
rather than the words)
b. Using the same specific notes as above split it into 2
four measure phrases.
c. Put the entire song together.
d. Remind Students about how self-evals work.
e. Have Susan pass out the rubrics while everyone gets a
writing utensil ready.
C. Assessment Activity- [5 minutes]
a. Students will split up into two groups and then evaluate their
own groups performance/compare contrast to the other groups
performance after both have gone.(this will be part of a
procedure explained earlier in the year) This will both
demonstrate that they have learned the song, but also can
hear what collectively they did right/wrong and actively listen to
each other, which promotes good listening skills/silence for my
own evaluation of each group. There are no winners between
the two they are just split up so I can hear the individual voices
easier, and so they have less voices to focus on for their
overall performance.
D. Summative Activity/Closing/Wrap-up:
a. Turn In Evaluations and line up to go.
b. If extra time Free Space to grab metal sheet music boards to
create rhythms, or ask questions about what we just did.
E. Secondary/alternative plans: should technology decide to not function,
have back up physical copies of the music for hey ho at the very least.
And hope by at this point in the semester the warm ups are
internalized.
