1 illustrates the conceptual framework as to how the research is to be

carried out. The novel Wide Sargasso Sea will be analysed through the four women

characters, Antoinette, Anette, Christophine and Amelie. These characters will be examined

using Firestone’s theory, which is radical feminist materialist theory that looks on how

patriarchy and marriage are discusses in relation to nuclear family and love. Resistance

towards patriarchy and marriage is then analysed in order to provide the conclusion of this

study.
