Inquiry
needs
reset
It’s time for a critical review
and reset of the national
inquiry into missing and mur-
dered indigenous women and
girls.
The inquiry is needed.
Indigenous women have a mur-
der rate at least four times
higher than other Canadians.
Violence and death are part of
their lives at horrifying levels,
and have been for decades.
As a nation, we need to
understand why and take
measures to change this grim
reality.
That hasn’t happened. An
inquiry — despite the many
challenges — is the best way to
understand the complex causes
and respond effectively.
But this inquiry is in trouble.
Families have complained
about the slow progress — the
first hearings were held only
this week in the Yukon, almost
10 months after the commis-
sioners received their man-
date.
Hearings will then be sus-

love with Kelowna and British Columbia. He was so fortunate to have
a terrific job with Brookfield GIS – his best career experience ever with
wonderful colleagues and associates. Kris was an outdoors guy with a
passion for sports – his pursuits included golf, fishing, kayaking (while
fishing), skiing (most elegant skier on the mountain), playing and watching
hockey (especially his beloved Sens). We will miss his quirky sense of
humour, his gentle smile and kind heart, his soft blue eyes, his introverted
chattiness, his high culinary standards, his relentless teasing and most of
all his strong loving hugs. A huge piece of our existence has vanished, but
we will rebuild our lives the way we know Kris would want us to. A small,
private Celebration of Life will be held in Ottawa, Kris’s home town, later
in June. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the BC
SPCA Kelowna Branch. Condolences may be sent to the family by
visiting www.everdenrust.com ~ 250-860-6440

BARICHELLO, RANDALL STEPHEN

Born December 26, 1953 in Thunder Bay,

Ontario, passed away peacefully at Surrey
Memorial Hospital surrounded by loved ones
on Monday, June 5, 2017. Predeceased by
his parents Alex and Laura, Randy is survived
by his step-mother Gwyneth; his sister Lynne;
his wife Kris; his children Stephen, Selena,
Loryn and their mother Elle; his grandson
Everett; and his “dog” Thor. Randy touched
the lives of many over the past two decades
in a twelve step organization. He will be fondly
remembered by his loved ones for his passion
of the outdoors, leather working and his sense
ROBSON, (Laura) June of humour. Memorial will be held at Sanford Hall,
1945 - 2017 1367 128 St Surrey BC on Saturday, June 24,
June Robson passed away May 29, 2017 at 11 am. Guests with copies of Randy’s
2017 in Kelowna BC. Predeceased by leatherwork are asked to bring a sample for
her husband, John, in 2015, June will be display. Contributions for a donation made in
lovingly remembered by her children Kevin Randy’s name to a twelve step organization will
(Roni) Seeley, Craig Seeley, Colleen (Rick) be accepted at the service, in lieu of flowers.
Tillapaugh, grandchildren Jason, Amanda,
Karlina, Kara, Kelsey, Ava and Brynn and 4
great-grandchildren (the most recent born on
May 21). She also leaves behind her siblings
Laurettta Charlton, John, Terry and Allen
Euper as well as many extended family and
friends who will also miss her dearly, including
Pat Wood, her best friend for 50 years. Born May 1, 1945 in Vancouver to
Jack and Dorothy Euper, June spent most of her childhood in Vancouver
and Bellingham, WA. She lived for many years on Quadra Island and in
Campbell River where they raised the kids and then headed for the sunny
Okanagan when John retired in 2000. She and John loved exploring the
area where they enjoyed the warmth of the weather and the friends that
they met there. June continued to work and enjoyed brightening the days
of many others during her time at Capri Insurance in West Kelowna. June
was active in the local quilting clubs and thoroughly enjoyed the many
hours she spent making beautiful treasures for various charities. She and
John also liked to travel, particularly to the warm climates in Hawaii and
Arizona. Most of all, June loved spending time with her family and friends.
Her infectious smile and warm welcome brightened the lives of those
she touched and she truly was the glue who brought the family together.
Support from friends, family and faith gave June the strength needed in
her courageous battle with cancer. While saddened by our loss, we are
glad to know she is Home and reunited with Dad. A celebration of June’s
life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made
to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Central Okanagan Hospice House
(www.hospicecoha.org). Arrangements entrusted to Everden Rust Funeral
Services, condolences may be made by visiting www.everdenrust.com
