Skills & Abilities

MANAGEMENT
· A union delegate fills the bridge between staff and management. Fielding those issues was part of my
role
· Efficient allocation of work responsibilities and union duties

SALES
· Sales isn’t just selling tickets, as it was when I was on the rails. It is also the “sale” on the benefits of
union membership and why I do what I do

COMMUNICATION
· Delivering the union’s message on campaigns and votes. Informing the membership to their rights.

LEADERSHIP
· The delegate’s role was, and remains, difficult. You become a target for some, and deemed irrelevant of
others. The leadership function isn’t just leading people; it is the way you do things.

DIVERSITY
· Aware of the issues surrounding diversity. Included in this LGBTQIA+, disability, Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander, age.

the person with the disability to fully participate in society.
