Torrential rains, gusty wind on tap for Wednesday

BOSTON — A large storm system in the Plains moved into New England, bringing strong wind and the
potential for some urbanized flooding.

The rain and wind ramped up overnight, with winds on Wednesday potentially gusting to to near 50 mph,
especially for areas south of Boston, said StormTeam 5 meteorologist Mike Wankum.

Areas from Boston to Worcester would likely to see gusts between 35 and 40 mph.

By Wednesday morning, eastern Massachusetts will see a band of heavy rain move through the region.

“From about Worcester to Boston, that’s where you’ll see the heaviest rain,” StormTeam 5 chief
meteorologist Harvey Leonard said.

By the evening commute, the heaviest amount of rain will be in the South Shore and southeastern
Massachusetts communities.

“But as more low pressure develops with the front just offshore, some additional rain will develop,” Leonard
said.

Oct 24-25 wind forecast

The rainfall will linger into Thursday, but in a weakened form, before exiting Thursday night.

When all is said and done, about 2 to 4 inches of rain will fall, with about 3.5 inches of rain expected for
Boston.

Friday and the weekend are expected to be mostly-dry, before more rain arrives Sunday night.
