Speaking part 1
In the IELTS speaking test Part 1, the examiner will introduce himself or herself
and ask general questions on familiar topics.
The examiner will ask some questions to confirm your identity. He or she will then ask general
questions on familiar topics such as home, family, work, studies and interests. Part 1 Speaking
test takes about 4-5 minutes and number of questions depend on how testee responds.
Speaking part 2
In the IELTS speaking test Part 2, testee will be given a task card on a particular
topic, this will include key points that he or she should talk about.
This section of the Speaking test gives testee the opportunity to speak longer about the topic.
Testee will be given one minute to prepare for his/her answer about the topic on the task card. A
pencil and paper will be provided for him/her to take notes.
Testee will have about 2 minutes to talk and then the examiner might ask him/her one or two
follow up questions on the same topic. Part 2 takes about 3-4 minutes.
Speaking part 3
In the IELTS speaking Part 3, the examiner will ask further questions which are
connected to the topic discussed in part 2.
This part of the test is designed to give testee the opportunity to talk more about abstract issues
and ideas. It is a two-way discussion with the examiner, and will last about 4-5 minutes.
