Weekly Report

Considered having my first job, as a trainee in the Canadian Potentials, Immigration and

Education Services, I didn’t expect myself to be an ojt here. Due to exceeding numbers of the On

the job trainees in the office of atty. Balderama, I was re-assigned to work with the Canadian

immigration services and was given a chance to focus more on the immigrations law, specifically

on Canada. Within the week, as I adjust myself to the nature of working, I learned a lot of things,

not just with the job description itself but moreover, with the nature in the work. The office of

the immigration was submerged with the notarial office of Atty. Francisco Balderama, so there

were less problem in confronting to legal cases. In the office, there were two attorneys assigned,

Atty. Bladerama, and the associate attorney, Atty. Louie Mark Dalawampu. The working nature

that I was expecting meet the needs of my personal discovering and learning with my profession.

In my First week here in the firm, I learned a lot of things, with the immigration itself and

at times, I got a chance to do some legal works in the office beside the immigration. I learned to

make some documents such as affidavit of loss, certifications, etc.. I learned that somehow in the

immigration, in some cases, they apply some proceedings and involved legal researches

pertaining to cases wherein for example, if the visa was denied, there will be proceedings if ever

you will re appeal to the said denial or you will comply with the requirements that is needed for

the request to be rendered valid. Eventhough the profession that I will pursue is not much inline

with the work that I was assign, I realized that somehow I can use the knowledge that I am

acquiring in the future.

There was a time that I was assigned by the manager to revise a working contract to be

submitted in Canada. Because of the subjects that I took like the Legal Writing, and Obligation

and Contracts. I had a background on how to do some contracts. The management told me to edit

the contract due to renewing of the client, also because the informations in the past contract was

invalid because of the relocation of the client. The manager gave me a draft of a contract so that I

will have a guideline in making it. Also on that week, we experienced to receive cases which the

working visa was denied, so I was assigned to do some research regarding the case, where the

client submitted sufficient requirements, specifically, the medical exam results because he failed

to do the examination for herself. Because of the unavailability of both attorneys in the law

office for consultation, I was obliged to do some research from Canadian immigration books and

the internet itself, I was struggled hard in researching because it is my first time in these kind of

topic, regarding the immigration laws, by devoting my effort, luckily I found some data that suits

for the case.

I observed for the week that because of the nature of the workplace, the demand of the

clients was not much than the other business, so there are times in the firm that I will experience

some idles, so I taught that to handle that kind of situations I will make myself useful by bringing

some books to read and to educate my mind. Also because given the fact that the business is not

much of a busy place, I will find my time to support and somehow give assistance to the office

beside us, which I think I also will benefit on what I will learn on the practice.

In some times, I also had fun in working with my co-on the job trainees because the

people who is working permanently in the office welcomed us like a family, so every day we

learning and at the same time, enjoying through having different experience as they share their

knowledge according with the workplace, and at times, facts about life, advices and experiences.
