INTERNATIONAL LABOR LAW

D. NIMALAN

BC0150017

Viatnamese catfish are cheaper yet of better quality when compared to the Catfish produced

in the Mississippi delta in the US. Because of the Higher production cost in US the cost of the

catfishes are also higher. Vietnamese catfishes are caught using the traditional method which is

not the case in US catfishes. The vietnamese catfishes are also tastier and healthier when

compared to the US catfishes. As a result of the cheap price of the vietnamese catfish the cost of

labor is also cheap in case of the vietnamese cat fish.

Because of the lower cost of the vietnamese catfish being imported in US which is better in

taste and health when compared to the US catfish the people started preferring the Vietnamese

catfish over the local cultivated catfishes. Which, in turn resulted in the loss of the local catfish

farmers. So the Us government is proposing to impose Anti dumping duties on the catfishes

imported from the Vietnam.

An anti dumping duty is a protectionist tariff that a domestic government imposes on foreign

imports that it believes are priced below fair market value. Dumping is a process where a

company exports a product at a price lower than the price it normally changed on its own home

market. By imposing such tariff on the vietnamese catfishes it will become on level with the

price of the US catfishes which may benefit the local catfish farmers. So as the trade union leader

of the United states catfish cultivation and production industry I was always supposed to think on

the basis of welfare of my workers. As a trade union leader I will whole heartedly support the US
government decision to impose anti dumping duty tariff on catfish imposed from vietnam so that

it will improve the lives of my industry workers.
