Group Assignment - POWER SYSTEM ANALYSIS (5 marks)

A result from load flow analysis on a 5-bus power system is indicated in Figure 1 below.
The bus voltages is in per unit based on rated voltage and 100 MVA, while the power is
in respective actual units (MW and MVAr).

Your group is required to validate the result by two methods:

a. Obtain the result by manual calculation. Any inverse matrix operation can be
done by the help of computer-aided calculation.
b. Simulate the 5 bus system by using any computer package such as Power World,
Hadi Saadat’s m-file et cetera.

In both cases, your group needs to validate and compare the results in terms of:
i) Bus voltage magnitude and phase angle
ii) Generation and load at each bus in MW and MVAr
iii) The flow of MW and MVAr from that bus over each transmission line connected
to the bus
iv) The total MW and MVAr losses in the system
Discuss the methods to ensure that good operating condition of power system is
maintained when there is appreciable drop in voltage on the primary of a transformer
caused by a change of load.
Each group should submit a report and presentation slides covering the above items. The
deadline for submission is on Thursday of Week 13.

Make sure that your group report and presentation slides are original. Copying from any
other group is not allowed and will result into zero mark for all members of the groups
involved with this unethical activity.
