from your MST. Consider how/why you would implement diagnostic assessment in a
UAE primary classroom in the future. Explain how this practice will affect student
learning in a primary class.

Diagnostic assessment is important for teachers because it depends on the different levels
of the students. So, it make the teacher know the level of each student and help her to
develop the student skills by give her/his worksheet from easy too hard to improve their

Reflection 2:
Choose 3 best practices you observed during your time in school. Reflect on these and
consider why you could implement these in a UAE primary classroom in the future.
Explain how these practices will affect student learning in a primary class.
The 3 best practices that I observed in the school was being on time in the class and I sow
all the teacher being in the class on time and finish on time. Also, manage the classroom
with two different gender is easy for the teacher but hard for us and the last thing is the
relationship of all the teachers that they help each other whenever they want anything
they gave other and this thing is very important for the teachers.
Task 3:
Choose 3 best practices you observed during your time in school. Reflect on these and

Explain how these practices will affect student learning and reading levels in a primary
class.
There are a lot of things that I earn from my MST. But, there are 3 best practices that I love
her way to how she teach the students with using flashcards for everything and it make the
students love the lesson. Also, how she organize her time for the lesson and activity by using
timer to make the students engage. The last thing is she use her rules like a flashcards that
when she want anything she raise the flash card.

Describe the classroom environment.

There are a lot of things in the classroom that the teacher put which is star chat for their
behavior. Also, she have put all the classroom rules on the wall. For the reading stories there
was corner for reading. And she put all the students work in the class when they have any
special work with the school.

Reading corner. Classroom rules Star chart

Consider how the class is a print rich environment. What print can you see around the room?
(labels, captions, flashcards, headings, rules, instructions, timetable, flash cards, etc) For
each one you mention insert pictures and state the purpose of each one.

In the classroom environment I sow flashcards and rules. Flash card was for the activity or if the teacher want
to say something she only raise the cars. For the rules there was on the wall and the teacher always remember
the students about it.

Is there a variety of books and genres in the class? Mention some. How are they displayed?

There was some books in the reading corner about stories and the students who finish the activities that the
teacher gave them they went to the reading corner and read the story or sometime they shared the story
together.

Describe the reading area in your classroom.

In my classroom there are reading corner and it's all about stories and letters and some toys and dolls that
the student enjoy reading with this toys. So, some students like to read books or stories, the teacher give
them chance to read if they finish their works.

Does the teacher read to the children? How often? How does she motivate them to read?

Actually if they have two English lesson in one day, the first class they learn English and second class they
learn moral education and it about UAE in the past stories. So, when they have moral education the teacher
read the story aloud then let the students read in the part. This help them to improve their reading skills and
let them read clearly.
Describe the reading approaches have you observed? Where do the
children sit? How does the teacher encourage participation?

Consider how the teacher reminds children of any concepts of print when reading? (left-to-
right, top to bottom, punctuation, author, illustrator, etc)

When they were in reading corner. She tell them that they have to read from left to right because it's English
language. Also, when she read for them any story she show them the name of author and the name of illustrator.
So, when they read any story they know all things.

How does the teacher teach phonics and word attack skills to children? Describe a phonics
lesson you observed and mention how the children are scaffolded to recognise the word and
get the meaning.

When they have English lesson about phonic and they took "sh" and ch", she show them flashcard about sh and
ch and let each student gave here example about this two words. So, she gave them some words about sh and ch
by using song and flash card.

Ask your teacher about special reading events carried out in the school - e.g ‘Book Character
Day’, DEAR Time, Book Fairs, ‘Extreme Reading’ competitions etc.

They don’t have special reading events. They only read in the classroom.
Describe some types of writing activities or the method the teacher uses for writing – e.g
emergent writing, copy writing, dictations, etc
My MST always like to let the students write and care about the hand writing because some students don’t like to write but
she let them write everything to be easy for them in writing. So, she did for them 1 day in the week dictation about what
they took to be sure that they know how to write the words or not. Also, in their activity book they have pages about copy
writing.
