Organisation

The South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) is a

premier textile research institute sponsored by the textile industry and
supported by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. This
institute has completed its 50 years of existence few years ago.
Considering its industry relevant research and other activities, more
than 300 textile units are members of SITRA and around 90% of them
utilise one or more services of SITRA. Besides, many non-members
units from all over India and overseas utilise SITRA’s services.

Participants of the first batch (2009-2010) of one-year full-time certificate course on “Textile Technology for Supervisory Jobs in Spinning Mills”
 The state-of-the-art instruments available at SITRA can be seen
only in the best laboratories. It has a pilot spinning mill, weaving and
knitting lab with latest machines. Its library has rich collection of
books. It subscribes for more than 200 international and national
journals.

SITRA
Industry
The Indian textile industry is the second highest job provider
after agriculture. This industry has been growing considerably over the
years. There is a huge gap between the requirement of technical
personnel for the industry and availability of technically qualified
persons. This course will help the candidates to fill in this gap. Being
production industry it exists for many years and will remain important
for many more years to come.

Course Content
The course content has been planned using the rich experience of
SITRA and suggestions from the industry. The theoretical inputs and
hands-on training on hi-tech machines and technologies will help the
students to face the industry from the day one after joining the job.

Course Duration
The course will commence from 1st week of August 2010 and
will be completed by April 2011. The classes will be conducted at
SITRA, Coimbatore.
Fees
Rs. 20,000 per participant per course to cover tuition fees and
institutional amenities.

Accommodation
SITRA does not have its own hostel but there are many students’
/ bachelors’ accommodations around SITRA. SITRA can help in
arranging accommodation in those facilities for the students. The
approximate cost for accommodation will be Rs. 750 per month and
food and other expenses will be Rs. 2500 per month. Considering the
course duration of 9 months, the expected total expenses towards
lodgings and boarding for outstation candidates will be approximately
Rs. 29,250 besides the tuition fees of Rs. 20,000.

Eligibility
Selection criteria will be based on the course selected.

Award of Certificate
The students will have to put in minimum 80% attendance and
pass examination in all subjects, to be eligible for the award of
certificate.

Enrolment

served basis. The candidates sponsored by the industry will be given
preference.
