FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GOOD PATROON AWARD TO BE PRESENTED TO COMMUNITY

FOUNDATION FOR THE GREATER CAPITAL REGION
Award will be made at Annual Meeting, May 23 at Albany Institute

ALBANY, NY – May 15, 2018 – The Albany Roundtable has selected the Community Foundation for
the Greater Capital Region to receive its prestigious Good Patroon Award for bringing individuals
and organizations together to develop solutions to community challenges and sharing best practices in
nonprofit sector. The award will be presented at the Albany Roundtable’s Annual Meeting on
Wednesday, May 23 at 6:00 p.m. at the Albany Institute of History and Art.
The Albany Roundtable has fostered civic engagement across disciplines – and over lunch –
since it was founded nearly forty years ago. For fifty years, the Community Foundation has worked to
improve the quality of life in the region by promoting and facilitating effective philanthropy.
“Their stewardship of active donors has provided a reliable source of support for countless
organizations in the region – including more than $5 million to some 1,400 nonprofit organizations and
scholarship recipients in 2017 alone,” said Christopher Burke, President of the Albany Roundtable. “The
Foundation’s fifty years of leadership is richly deserving of the Good Patroon Award.”
Founded in 1968, the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region manages more than
400 separate charitable funds and works closely with its donors to achieve their philanthropic goals.
Individuals, families, organizations, and businesses create funds at the Foundation to support their
charitable interests, serve as leaders in their communities, and effect change. The Foundation assists
donors in making meaningful investments in the community in whatever manner suits them. Their
success is directly related to their generous donors who invest through the Community Foundation in the
area’s most effective nonprofit organizations.

The Albany Roundtable established its Good Patroon Award 1988 to celebrate outstanding
contributions to the community by institutions and individuals. The most recent Good Patroon Award

Institute; WAMC Northeast Public Radio; Historic Albany Foundation; Hon. John J. McEneny for his
career in public service; and Ruth Pelham and the Music Mobile.

“When he died in 1839, Stephen Van Rensselaer III was remembered as ‘The Good Patroon’ for
his benevolent attitude toward the residents of Rensselaerswyck,” said Burke. “The Good Patroon and
New Patroon Awards are the Albany Roundtable’s means of honoring those leaders who make our
community a better place to live. We are so pleased to be able to present the Community Foundation for
the Greater Capital Region with this award.”
