Shahanshah of Philosophers

The key to Plato's psychology is a certain moment in his Republic.

... We are just approaching the stage, which is to justify
w h y the ideal state should be managed by philosophers.
In the narrative, a figure of a robust young man appears
to whom politicians make an offer regarding his career;
on the other hand, he is tempted by the philosophy specialist, Socrates.

The lad (we guess it's Plato himself) chooses the theoretician's proposal...
This moment clearly irritates the author of The Republic.
Until now this dialogue was proceeding with the calm pace
of the interesting university lecture.
It could be pictured as a two-horse carriage ride
with a coachman-storyteller trying to dazzle his listeners
with worse or better metaphors.

From that point the vehicle accelerates, and the coachman -

nervously shooting with the whip -
shows off the evolutions in driving, taking sharp turns over rocky cliffs.
I got off on the nearest pass.
I understood that Plato's horses were galloping to Tehran,
where in a republic familiar to him, ruled by philosophers,
he would like to apply for the position of the sun king.
