Abstract

Advantages and possibilities offer by modern CAD tools in conceptual design are discussed, in order
to illustrate these possibilities a method to estimate weight in conceptual design is presented. The
present weight method is based on geometry and simple load analyses; the weight is determined
from a 3D computer model. The actual method is a compromise between empirical methods and
time-consuming methods based on finite element analyses. This report is to set the final approach in
constructing the actual UAV.

In aerodynamics, the flight envelope, service envelope, or performance envelope of an aircraft or

interplanetary spacecraft refers to the capabilities of a design in terms of airspeed and load factor or
atmospheric density, often simplified to altitude for Earth-borne aircraft. The term is somewhat
loosely applied, and can also refer to other measurements such as maneuverability. When a plane is
pushed, for instance by diving it at high speeds, it is said to be flown "outside the envelope",
something considered rather dangerous. This report focuses on the UAV’s capabilities and limits thru
out the flight cycle that will serve as a guide for the user.

Weight and balance is a key factor in not only design, but in the performance and stability of an
aircraft under various operating conditions. Balance is maintained through the Center of Gravity
(C.G.), whose location determines aircraft characteristics, position of the center of gravity is affected
not only by the total but also the distribution of weight throughout the aircraft

Weight parameters ensure the wings and overall structure are able to support the aircraft
throughout all flight envelopes Prior to every flight, pilots must determine the weight and balance to
ensure the aircraft is operated in accordance with the manual weight and balance data more than an
exercise in determining where an aircraft's C.G. will fall. This report is to deal with the improved
weight and balance of the UAV
