Holly Cavalier
Embroidered Rubber Gloves

Stitch, gloves, J-cloth and tissue

paper collage with acrylic

400mm x 400mm

These gloves were an

exploration/critique of domesticity
and femininity, with needlework
having been considered traditionally
a women’s craft and the gloves
themselves representing housework
and the kitchen.
Untitled

Etching

250mm x 250mm

This print was one of my favourites out

of several colour combinations I tried.

I created the background with intaglio

printing, which involved leaving layers
of ink meaning I could build up as
intense a colour I wanted.

I liked this particular print as not

cleaning off the etching plate entirely
created patches and mixes of ink that I
think add to the mood of the portrait.
Biro Drawings
200mm x 200mm and 210mm x 290mm

Exploring fantasy, dark illustrative style; these form part of the

work that I like to do in my own time outside of any course.

Wasps’ Nest

Drawing, sepia ink

A2

Taking my ‘domesticity’ project in a

new direction, I looked at a variety of
‘homes’ in the natural world, such as
bird’s nests, hives/honeycomb, and
spiders webs – going on to create 3D
installations where I morphed these
forms with human furniture.
Exploring “the home” as inspired by Japanese artist
Chiharu Shiota made using wool and old chairs.

Domestici-TEA Dress

One size

Handmade, polyester, found objects

A fashion item with blue motifs to mimic

blue willow pattern china, the kitchen
utensils on the skirt (made of an old net
curtain) were potato-printed, and the
swirls hand stencilled. The breastplate
was made by sticking together plastic
picnic spoons which I then painted.
