PLAN
I. Intro: We will begin the lesson by reviewing the prior day’s learning. This included an
introduction to the ideas of products and industries, as well as the significance of this topic.
During the review of the previous lesson, we will also briefly review the five regions of Virginia
by looking over the map of the state. Then, I will explain the outline for today’s lesson, described
below. I will explain to students that we will be learning about the products and industries that
characterize each region of Virginia.
II. After introducing the lesson, I will pass out the note sheets (attached below). We will read over
the first note sheet about important terms, and I will highlight several challenging concepts.
A. Students will be asked to explain in their own words what manufacturing, service, and
agriculture each mean.
B. We will read the note sheet together, discussing each term, product, or industry until I
feel that all students have a secure understanding of their significance.
C. We will then review the second note sheet together that explains the main products and
industries for each region of Virginia.
III. After reading the second note sheet, I will give the students more instructions for their skits. I will
assign each table a region of Virginia. Each table must then work as a group to create a short skit
that explains the main products and industries used and produced by their region of Virginia. The
skit should be silent and must demonstrate this information without relying on verbal explanation.
A. Each group will be given time to discuss and plan their skit, and then we will reconvene
as a group to watch the groups present.
IV. After each group presents, students will be given an exit ticket to verify that they attended to each
group’s presentation and know the main products and industries for each region.
