Semmelweis Egyetem
Egészségügyi Főiskolai Kar
Budapest 2006
Készítette: Dr. Sódar Károlyné

Szakmai lektor: Opricsné Orbán Margit

Felelős kiadó: Dr. Mészáros Judit főigazgató

Előszó

Az Egészségügyi Főiskolai Karon az esti illetve levelező tagozatos hallgatók két féléven át
tanulnak ’Idegen szaknyelv’ tantárgyat, 4-4 kreditpontért.
A konzultációs időszakban a hallgatók tudásszintjüknek megfelelő csoportban (a félév során

alig foglalkozik a szóbeli, kommunikációs készségek fejlesztésével.
A jegyzet megvételekor azonban a hallgatók hozzáférést kapnak a szótárprogramot is
tartalmazó teljes multimédiás tananyaghoz, aminek önálló feldolgozása további segítséget
nyújthat nyelvi fejlődésükben és a nyelvvizsgára való felkészülésben.
A multimédiás programban hozzáférhető angol-magyar szószedet nyomtatott formában is
kapható a Főiskola jegyzetboltjában.

Sikeres tanulást kívánunk!

workday usually starts at 6 a.m. I am still sleepy but I get up. I go to the bathroom,
have a shower, clean my teeth, comb my hair and put on my clothes. Then I go to the
kitchen and make breakfast for the family. We drink lemon tea and eat some bread-
and-butter with vegetables. We always have our breakfast together. We usually leave
home at 7 o'clock. My husband often goes to work by car, so he drives the children to
school. I almost always travel to my workplace by bus and underground. It generally

1. Read the text carefully and decide if the following statements are true or false.

Whether you are giving up smoking or starting a diet, it is very difficult to keep
the strict rules day by day. The director of a cancer prevention research centre in the
USA found that half of people lapse within 3 months when they try to make any
health change. Here you can find some advice, tips to help you to hold out.
1./ Don't give it up. The biggest mistake is to give your plans up. Always ask yourself,
"What did I do right?", "What mistakes did I make?", "What should I do differently?".
2./ Be ready for the task before you do anything, make a list of the advantages you
gain if you eat more healthily, do exercises, quit smoking or cut down on alcohol.
3./ Do it for a month. It is easier to do something for a shorter period at first and it
proves that you can do it. A group of volunteers gave up alcohol for a month and after
that period they all felt more in control, healthier and had higher self-esteem. This
positive feeling can help you to hold out.
4./ Make it public. Tell your family and friends that you are trying to lose weight, quit
smoking. It can strenghten your resolve.
5./ Imagine yourself fit. Try to imagine how slim, fit and healthy you can be in one
month, six months, a year or later.
6./ Work with a personal trainer. A personal trainer can work out a special fitness
programme, which is the best for your individual goals and needs.
7./ Write it down. When you write down your goals, it helps you to strenghten them.
Make a list of what exactly you want to achieve and what specific steps you want to
take. Even if you hate the gyms, you can take up couple-friendly sports such as tennis,
squash or table tennis. If you like dancing, it can be very useful as well. This is a
funny way to burn fat, increase fitness and tone your muscles.
a) It is not important to check yourself all the time and ask if you did something
wrong or not.
b) If you follow your plan for a month and you are satisfied with the results, you
can stop it.
c) If you work with a partner, it is more enjoyable.
d) If you take up sports like tennis, it doesn't help you to reach the goal.
e) Dancing is a useful way of burning fat, too.

Vitamins

1. Read the text carefully and try to find the right words for the definitions
below.

Our modern lifestyle offers many things that we enjoy but, of course, it can
have negative effects on our body as well. If we want to stay healthy, we can use
vitamins, which are naturally found in brightly-coloured fruits and vegetables. These
are, for example, oranges, broccoli, tomatoes, and so on. Dieticians offer us to eat a
lot of them every day but we cannot always do it. That's why vitamins are very
important for us, especially during the winter months when we easily catch colds and
influenza. One of the most important vitamins is vitamin C. It is found in almost
every fruit and vegetable, but our body cannot store it so it is good to take it every
day. Other vitamins stay in our body more easiliy but, of course, we can have them
with our daily meals to get an extra "energy bomb". Most of us live hectic lives.
Intensive mental and physical activities use up energy very fast. Dieticians say if we
take enough vitamins, we can protect ourselves.

College of Health Care

The Faculty of Health Care was established in 1975. Recently it became an integrated
part of Semmelweis University, the long-established medical university, well known
and recognised all over the world. In the last couple of years, the faculty has
undergone some changes.

Basic features of the training system at the faculty

Two important changes to the training system of the faculty are: the introduction of
the credit system from the 2002/2003 academic year and the transition to the two-
cycle training system from the 2005/2006 academic year. The credit system makes it
possible to measure and compare student performance equally in European countries.
The two-cycle system offers the choice between the basic bachelor degree (BSc) and
the master degree (MSc). If you have your basic degree,
you can get a job. But you can also continue to study in the master cycle to get a
higher degree.
The faculty provides the following basic /BSc/ training programmes:
Nursing and patient care programme
