How is the Virus Transmitted?
Marburg is transmitted through sexual
contact, direct contact with the blood
that already contains the Marburg virus,
and consuming food that the Old World
Fruit Bat infected. Below is a list of

About the Virus
Marburg Virus is a virus that falls under
a specific classification of virus named
filovirida (filovirus). This virus is very
rare, but when contacted with a host
becomes highly fatal and contagious.
The composition of the Marburg Virus
contains nucleoprotein, polymerase (L
and cofactor VP35) and transcription
factor VP30. The walls are lined up by
glycoprotein, VP24 and Matrix VP40 it
also contains a single stranded RNA.).
Marburg was first discovered in 1967,
when a group of 31 scientists from
Marburg (hence the naming of it) and
Angola were exposed to infected Grivet
Monkey tissues. The biggest outbreak MARBURG
was in Angola in 2005, killing 329
people giving it a mortality rate of 88%. VIRUS

What are the
Symptoms?
Psychological Symptoms
The disease does not have many
psychological symptoms, however the
disease does interfere with the nervous
system. This can cause changes such as
confusion, irritability, and aggression.

is important to try to treat this virus as
early as possible, and prevent it the best
you can.
Physical Symptoms
This virus can cause many issues with
physical appearance. It causes ‘ghost-
like’ features, such as deep set eyes,
expressionless face, and extreme
lethargy. It also causes a non-itchy rash,
red eyes, bleeding from the eyes, nose,
gums, and vagina. This virus also causes
orchitis and watery diarrhea.
Other Symptoms
This disease can cause severe
headaches, severe hemorrhagic fever,
severe malice, muscle aches and pains,
and abdominal pains and cramps.

transmission of the disease.
What You Can Do To Prevent the Virus
From Spreading
This virus is spread by direct contact
from blood already infected by the virus,
sexual contact with someone who is
infected with the virus, or eating food
that an Old World Fruit Bat. The best
way to spread transmission is to keep
your hands to yourself and check any
food that might be contaminated. Be
careful and mindful of what food you eat,
whether it be the direct fruit the bat
contaminates, or the animal that ate the
contaminated fruit.
