CONTEXT AND POPULATION
Number of students: 26

Students females: 16
The study was done in a public university in the city of Sincelejo in Colombia, with
a population of 26 students, which belong to low socio economic status, whose
ages range from 17 to 21 years. Basic level course and is carried out once a week
for 4 continuous hours. The students have had previous knowledge about the
language they are learning. The course is applied by a foreign language teacher
(emphasis English and French) which facilitates them a theoretical and practical
knowledge for the formation of students.

In the analysis of the first question: why do you study a second language, carried out by
26 students, who study level A1 for the acquisition of English as a second language, we
find that most of the students are 95% of the population do the course by necessity and
while the remaining 5% by hobbies; this shows that the majority of the population
analyzed seeks only an academic good.

2. Which do you think is the most useful strategy
for learning a second language?
In the analysis of second question: what do you think is the most useful strategy for
learning a second language? The best answer is to see movies, videos or series in the
language with a percentage of 55%, that is to say those students prefer to develop their
listening to improve the learning of a second language. For the population it is also
important to read books and articles, with 30% of the students it is more useful to read
books and articles to learn a second language. It was reflected that 10% of the students
find it useful to speak with native speakers to obtain another language and finally only 5%
believe that it is a useful esthetic to listen to music or audio books in the language. Each
strategy is of great importance as they are part of the skills for learning a second
language.

What is your best skill to learn the language? According to the third question we can
notice that the majority of the students developed in a 83% writing
because they perform more exercises more exercises written in the grammatical part,
and also we can notice that speaking, reading and listening are the less developed,
with a percentage of 7%, 5% and 5% respectively.

Whit 78% of students answer, speaking is the skill that students have least
developed, making this skill a disadvantage therefore this is the skill that the students
need to practice more. However they have an advantage with writing, listening and
reading, where students have fewer problems in the learning.
