War II Estefania López Period: 1 Ms. Varela Invasion of Poland
The Poland Invasion is significant to
World War II because it’s the event that caused the war to begin. The invasion began on September 1, 1939. Germany said it was a defensive action, but France and Great Britain weren’t convinced. The impact of the Poland Invasion on World War II led to France and Great Britain declaring war on Germany on September 3rd, which is what initiated the war. This invasion is really important because if Germany wouldn’t have invaded Poland, then maybe World War II would have never happened. The attack on Pearl Harbor was Attack of Pearl on December 7, 1941. The Harbor United States didn’t want to be part of the war it just wanted to give supplies to Great Britain, but when this attack happened it all changed. President Roosevelt asked the congress if the United States could enter the war and they agreed. This attack is important because it’s what got the United States to enter the war and declare war on Japan and Germany. Japan should’ve never bombed Pearl Harbor because they suffered the consequences. Operation Overlord began on June 6, 1944, and it was also known as D-day. That day about 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region. The allies created a large-scale deception campaign to make the Germans think that the invasion was going to be somewhere else. They had to make D-day all the planning really carefully, but everything was successful that day. D-day was important to World War II because the allies distracted the Germans and they invaded the beaches of Normandy successfully. The impact of D-day on World War II led to Germany having another defeat and making Hitler weaker. There was about 400,000 British and Miracle of Dunkirk French troops trapped in Dunkirk, France. While they were trapped the Germans were bombing them and killing a lot of them. People risked their lives and went to Dunkirk to save the soldiers. They saved about 300,000 troops from Dunkirk which is a miracle because they didn’t think that much troops would be saved. The Miracle of Dunkirk was significant to World War II because it was a really big miracle since this time it wasn’t the soldiers saving the country instead the people were saving the soldiers. The impact of the Miracle of Dunkirk on World War II led to soldiers being able to get back home and continue fighting for their country. Atomic Bombs The United States didn’t want to bomb Japan, but the Japanese wouldn’t surrender so they were kind of forced to throw the destructive atomic bombs. The first bomb was dropped in the city of Hiroshima, it killed approximately 80,000 people. The Japanese still didn’t surrender so a second bomb was dropped in the city of Nagasaki and it killed about 40,000 people. The atomic bombs were significant to World War II because they killed a lot of people, but they were successful on making the Japanese surrender. The impact of the atomic bombs on World War II led to the war finally ending, once the Japanese surrendered the war was over. Adolf Hitler Adolf Hitler was significant to World War II because he created a lot of problems and eventually he did something that led to World War II. The impact of Hitler on World War II led to people being manipulated by him and to a lot of Jews being killed. Hitler used nationalism to convince people in Germany that everything he was doing was for their own good, but all he wanted was power. Before, World War II began, France and Great Britain would use appeasement to stop Hitler from beginning something bigger like war. This meant they would give him what he wanted, so that he didn’t cause problems. But, the more that he got the more that he wanted and that was a problem. He eventually led the Nazis to invade Poland, and that is where he caused France and Great Britain to declare war against Germany and there began World War II. Franklin D. Roosevelt Franklin D. Roosevelt was significant to World War II because he made a good alliance with Great Britain and the Soviet Union. The impact of Roosevelt on World War II led to those three nations helping each other in war, he also was a big part of the United States having so many victories in World War II. Roosevelt was the only president to ever be elected four times. Roosevelt helped the United States stay neutral during World War II, but he did a good job in sending supplies to Great Britain and keeping their alliance. When the time came for the United States to enter the war he led them well through the war. He led the United States to many victories, until his death in 1945.
