The 98% confidence interval for the average time (month) taken by
the graduates to find their first job is given by
5.33 7.73
Conclusion:
We are 98% confidence that the average time taken by the graduates
to find their first job is between 5.33 and 7.73 months.

FIRST SEMESTER
SESSION 2016/2017
A researcher has done an experiment to investigate the effect of drying temperature of wheat grain
on the baking quality of bread. Three temperature levels were used, and the response variable
measured was the volume of the loaf of bread produce. The data are as follows:
TABLE 1
Temperature (ºC) Volume (CC)
70 1245 1235 1285 1245 1235
75 1235 1240 1200 1220 1210
80 1225 1200 1170 1155 1095
Based on the data in TABLE 1, answer the following questions (a) until (f).
a) If temperature is 70 ºC, can you conclude that the mean bread volume less than 1300 CC
at α=0.01?
(5 marks)
b) Is there any difference of mean bread volume when the highest temperature (80 ºC) and
the lowest temperature (70 ºC) are used in the experiment? Use α=0.01.
(9 marks)
c) Find the 99% confidence interval for the situation in 1(b). Interpret.
(3 marks)
f) Show the result of Bonferroni test for the data in TABLE 1. Use α=0.01. Briefly report
your analysis.
(13 marks)
g) Then, the researcher extended the experiment by using the specific worker (A, B, C, D and
E) as a block. The data is displayed in TABLE 2.
TABLE 2

75 1245 1250 1230 1220 1240
80 1238 1210 1150 1155 1020
i. Analyze the data in TABLE 2 at α=0.01 to see whether drying temperature affect
mean bread volume?
(5 marks)
ii. Is there any effect of the block to the result in 1(g)(i) compare to 1(e)? Explain.
