PART - A (10*2 = 20 marks)
1. Mention the disadvantages of Ohm’s Law
2. List out the types of dependent sources?
3. Compare series and parallel circuit.
4. A current of 30 mA is to be divided into two branch currents of 20 mA and 10 mA by a network with an
equvalent resistance equal to 10 ohm. Obtain the branch resistances.
5. State voltage division rule.
6. Sate superposition theorem and Nortons theorem.
7. List out the steps to solve the Thevenin’s theorem and maximum power transfer theorem.
8. List any two advantages of 3-phase system over 1-phase system.
9. A three phase motor can be regarded as a balanced Y load. A three phase motor draws 5.6kW when the line
voltage is 220V and the line current is 8.2A. Determine the power factor of the motor.
10 Give the line and phase values in star connection.
PART - B (5*16 = 80 marks)
11 a)(i) State and explain kirchoff’s laws, with example. (6)
(ii) Determine the current delivered by the source in the circuit shown in figure below. (10)

b) In the circuit shown in the given figure, find the different node voltages and the currents I1, I2 and I3. (16)

12 (a)(i) Compute V1 and V2 in the circuit shown below, using nodal analysis (8)

(ii) In the circuit shown, determine the current through the 2 ohm resistor and the total current delivered (8)
by the battery. Use Kirchhoff’s laws.

13 (a) (i) For the circuit shown, use superposition theorem to compute current I. (8)

(ii) Using source transformation techniques, find the Io in the circuit shown below. (8)

(b) Find the Thevenins’s equivalent circuit of the circuit shown below, to left of the terminals a b. Then (16)
find the current through RL = 16 ohm.

14 (a) Using superposition theorem calculate current through (2+j3) ohm impedance branch of the circuit (16)
shown.

(b)(i) Two wattmeters are used to measure the power in a three phase balanced load. Find the power factor (8)
if (i) two readings are equal, and
(ii) two readings are equal and opposite
(iii) One of the wattmeter readings is zero.
(ii) An unbalanced star-connected load has balanced voltages of 100 V and RBY phase sequence.
Calculate the line currents and the neutral current. The load impedance values are ZA= 15 ohms, ZB=
(10+j5) ohms, ZC= (6-j8) ohms.

15 (a)(i) Derive the relationship between phase voltage and line voltage in a 3 phase circuit when the load is (8)
star connected.
(ii) The power input to a 200V, 50 Hz, 3-phase motor is measured by two wattrmeters which indicate (8)
300KW and 100KW respectively. Calculate the input power, power factor and the line current.

(b) With a neat circuit and phasor diagram explain the three phase power measurement by two wattmeter (16)
methods.
