Édith Piaf

​ Édith Piaf was a famous singer who was born in Paris, France on december 19,

1915. Her mother was a cafe singer as well and her father was in a street circus. Her

parents divorced and Édith went with her father. Édith was renowned when she was 7

years old for her voice. Also when she was 7 she joined a circus caravan with her

father. She got separated from her father because he was often temperamental,

abusive and Édith set out to be a street singer in and around paris. At age 17 she and a

young boy named Louis Dupont had a daughter, Marcelle, she later died at 2 years old

by meningitis. Édith was discovered by Louis Leplée, her shy nature made her get the

name “the little sparrow”. Leplée ran a major publicity campaign promoting Édiths

opening night. Édith was popular enough to record two albums that same year. Leplée

was murdered the following spring and Édith and a new team took charge of her career.

Édith recorded her last song on april 1963. Édith later died from liver failure at her

french riviera villa on october 10, 1963.
