BACHELOR/GRADUATION FILM

2017-2018
Instructions
Generic info:

Files to submit digitally:

- Master film with hardcoded English subtitles


- Master film without subtitles
- Biography in English ( .pdf)
- Director Picture (.jpeg )
- Film Stills: 5 movie stills (identical frame size of your sequence .jpeg, no screenshots!)
- Filmography in English ( .pdf)
- Completed Info file ( .xls)
- Passwordprotected vimeolink of your film ( version with English subtitles and correct credits) +
password ( on the infofile)
- Synopsis/summary ( 30 > 90 words blanks included .pdf) ENGLISH, FRENCH, DUTCH

Arrangements:

It is obligatory to sign off upon handover!

Technical problems on the date of submission:

- If on the date of submission you encounter some technical problems, you should consult LUCA
Experts/Technics before 10am!!!

- Students who need additional help creating the files that must be delivered, must report no later than
two weekdays before the deadline at LUCA- experts

Deadlines

- The deadline relates to the final version of your film for jury screening as well as for archiving.

- This version must meet with all technical specifications and associated templates.

- All Luca Technics materials on loan need to be returned and all debts to the school ( also in the pool)
must be payed before this deadline!

The final version of your film need to include:

- the final color grading


- the finished soundtrack (final mixing included)
- the completed English subtitling. No subtitles are required if the film is English spoken.
- Your film must contain correct start and end credits as well as the LUCA logo. These are required on
the occasion of all screenings and exploitations of the film.

Copyrights and neighboring rights:

- The student indemnifies LUCA against all third party claims, including portrait rights and copyrights
and neighboring rights of co-authors, actors, composers, musicians, photographers, writers, film
producers and producers of recorded music.

Consequences of not respecting the arrangements:

- The exceeding of the deadline ( handing in files and equipment, paying debts) results in excluding your
film from jury screening and so from final assessment!

- Missing credits and/or logo results in excluding your film from jury screening and so from final
assessment!

Technical specifications

1. Start + end credits:


Your film starts with the LUCA-opening credit. Use the provided file “begingeneriek_LUCA.mov” or
“begingeneriek_LUCA.psd”.
Use “eindgeneriek_LUCA.psd” as a starting point for your end credits. Fill out your first name, last
name and graduation year.

2. Color Bars and Counting Leader


Don’t use any Color Bars nor Counting Leader at the start of your film unless they are used for
aesthetic reasons and are an integral part of your film.

3. Quicktime files:
ProRes 422(HQ) - 1920x1080@25p, one version with hardcoded subtitles and one version without
subtitles.
When working in another format than 16:9, please provide a version which is letter- or pillarboxed to a
16:9 aspect ratio.
When working in 24p, please provide both a 24p and 25p (conformed) version. Avoid using the 23,98p
framerate.
File naming convention is: NameFilm_FirstNameLastNameDirector_Framerate.mov (all words without
spaces and with capitals; each part is separated with an underscore).
Maximum audio level peaks up to -3dBFS.

5. Hard disk and TAG:


- Bring your files on a hard disk with thunderbold or USB3 (no USB2)
- Indicate the file to be projected with a Red TAG ( select the file in finder, CTRL-click or right-click,
select red tag from the shortcut menu that appears).

6. Audio @ Cinema Aventure / C-3.17:


Cinema Aventure has the ability to screen the audio in 5.1 ( surround sound). C-3.17 has the ability to
screen the audio in 7.1 ( surround sound). Although multi-channel sound is recommended in a large
room, the audio mix cannot be done in school in this case.

Jury screenings will be held on June 6,7 & 8, 2017 from 10 am @ C-3.17

Your bachelor film will be assessed by your coaches, the coordinator and advisory teachers for sound
and picture editing.

All students (including those not showing their work) need to attend from start to finish! All
screenings will be immediately followed by a short presentation by you and a q&a with jury members.

The films will be shown in attendance of the jury members as well as (some) other film and animation
students. No cast nor crew members, no friends nor relatives admitted.

 MASTER FILM

- Equipment:
Luca Technics materials for your Bachelorfilm will be available from June 1st. Book in time.
Luca Technics opening hours during summer 2018:
From July till September: Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to tot 4.45 p.m.
Closed on Friday
Closed on Wednesday August 15
From July 11 till July 31, the regular school entrances are closed off. Upon arriving at the Groenstraat
gate, please phone the pool: 02/250-11-94 (neither buzzer nor intercom are working).

Use the provided Adobe Encore template project “BRD_1080p25_LUCA.ncor” or


“BRD_1080p24_LUCA.ncor”
- Duration Film: min 10’ / max 20’ credits included

Technical assistance by Guido Devadder exporting/transcoding your files is only possible on August 22
and 23.

- Testing:

Testing your film in Cinema Aventure is obligatory. Date and hours to be confirmed

Jury screenings will be held on September 4,5,6 @ Cinema Aventure, Galerie du Centre,
Kleerkopersstraat 57, 1000 Brussel. Date and hours to be confirmed

Your graduation project will be assessed by an external jury.

All students (including those not showing their work) need to attend from start to finish! All screenings
will be immediately followed by a short presentation by you and a q&a with jury members, plus
additional questions by members of the audience.

The films will be shown in attendance of the jury members, chair and secretary, the master coordinator
and tutors as well as (some) film students from 2 and 3 BA. No cast nor crew members, no friends nor
relatives admitted.
