PROMOTING AND EMPOWERING ENTREPRENEURSHIP NATIONAL WIDE YOUTH

CONFERENCE 2018
Theme: “Creating a Community that Encourages Innovation, Entrepreneurship & New Business

CONCEPT NOTE

A. INTRODUCTION

Promoting and empowering entrepreneurship National wide is a project committed to empower and
promote young people who are passionate to venture into entrepreneurship ventures.

Our mission is to provide high quality, reliable, accessible and sustainable entrepreneurial and
leadership training, business incubation services, youth advocacy and financial accredited projects;
hence, model the youth to become all round entrepreneurs. Our Vision is to empower youth with
proper skills and knowledge, to enable them create sustainable social-economic development in the
community.

Youth Business Movement initiative was established in order to create a resourceful networking
database for those with a strong interest in entrepreneurship and introducing business startup in the
capacity of youth in Malawi for developing positive leadership skills and to espouse an honest work
ethic.

The youth business talk will bring together youth of Anglican Church, university students, young
people and youth leaders to listen and interact with different successful entrepreneurs and leaders in
order to be empowered on matters entrepreneurship , innovation and leadership. Malawi aims to
achieve a 90% economic growth rate and sustain it up to the year 2030 and going forward; this aim
can only be achieved if the youth, whose population is about 18.6 million and out of which
75% are economically inactive. The training will empower youth to undertake entrepreneurship
though business startups and take up leadership, thereby contribute towards the economic
development of the nation. Economic sustainability goes hand in hand with good governance/
leadership.

The youth of this nation are leaders and they will play a crucial role in leading us to the
attainment of Vision 2030. The Youth business conference theme will focus on Creating a
Community that Encourages Innovation, Entrepreneurship & New Business Start-ups in order to
influence economic sustainability and good governance, which are crucial in helping Malawi
attain Economic development.

B. OBJECTIVES

The main aim of the youth business talk is to empower the youth through entrepreneurship
and leadership. We would like youth to put together a successful new enterprise is a demanding
endeavor. Even though each entrepreneur and his or her enterprise are unique, successful
entrepreneurs display several important attributes like Innovation, passion, risk-taking, teambuilding
and putting the pieces together. We hope that during the youth business talk, the participants
will gain a clear perspective on the topics of economic sustainability and good governance/
leadership.
 To provide support, care and counselling.
 To afford the opportunity for personal development through the provision of programs that
enhance life skills, self-image and vocational motivation.
 To provide an inclusive environment encouraging participation from all ethnic groups &
fostering
 To provide a preventative and early intervention approach.
 Provide facilities and programs to meet the needs of our future generations as well as bridging
the gap and maintaining the balance of Intergenerational Equity. Support people through life
transitions.
 Develop better integrated and coordinated services.
 Build community capacity.
 Making the investment count (creating tangible current & future social benefits).
 Develop local solutions to local problems.
 To provide an opportunity for social interaction.
 To promote cross cultural understanding

The event will bring together 150 youth from across Blantyre City from different churches to
deliberate, share ideas, and learn from expert speakers on issues focusing on the following topics:

 Entrepreneurship and New Business start-ups


 Economic Sustainability
 Leadership
 Gender (Promoting economic and social rights and Empowerment of Girls and Women)
 Intellectual Property ( Patents, Trademarks and Industrial Designs)
C. EXPECTED RESULTS

We expect all participants to learn about entrepreneurship, economic sustainability, leadership


and good governance. We expect that some of the participants will be empowered to get
into entrepreneurship and as a result contribute to economic sustainability. We also expect
participants to learn about responsible leadership/governance and carry with them values that
will influence their decision- making as they currently and will in future hold positions of
leadership in our country.

We will also connect the participants to the speakers and entrepreneurs whom they can be inspired
from beyond the summit. To create a platform where the youth can be empowered with skills
to advocate for social change through participating in youth community dialogue sessions. Youths
are mentored and guided not only in business approach but also in leadership, community
engagement and public conduct and Increased entrepreneurship skills for youths to enhance their
ability to engage in sustainable self-employed businesses and reduced unemployment, violent and
criminal activities youths are gainfully employed in enterprise development and now see themselves
as role models worthy of emulation by other youths having now secured a sustainable means of
livelihood. We would also like to see youth close to 50 developing their startups and working on
them and also increasing the job creation in Malawi after this youth business conference.
