Topics include: creation of resumes and cover letters, discussions on cultural competence, ethics,
internship negotiations and strategies for success in an internship
 HDFS 395.2: associate level internship combined with a series of assignments to help students reflect
on their experiences including organizational analysis, policy analysis and internship project
 HDFS 490: internship preparation course for bachelor degree students that focus on resumes, cover
letters, interview skills, internship proposals, and demonstration of professionalism
 HDFS 495A: bachelor level internship enhancing hands-on learning with reflective daily logs,
interactive class live chats, and quizzes to tie in previous coursework
 HDFS 495B: taken concurrently with HDFS 495A, the primary aim of this course is to help students
to identify their strengths and weaknesses and to promote professional development through weekly
reflection assignments, organizational and policy analyses, and the integrative processing model

HDFS World Campus Internship Director & Instructor Aug 2015 – Present
Human Development & Family Studies, College of Health & Human Development
 Teach, advise and mentor students on matters related to internship and career development (all five
courses are taught every fall, spring, and summer)
 Review and verify internship proposals for accuracy and appropriateness; work with the Office of
General Counsel when affiliation agreements are required
 Cultivate and manage relationships with internship sites
 Develop and revise online internship curriculum and career-related courses
 Collaborate with departmental and World Campus advisers on matters related to HDFS internships,
current students, and future students
 Study metrics to measure student learning and course satisfaction; create surveys to evaluate internship
supervisor satisfaction with both student knowledge of the field and performance during internship
 Serve on the HDFS Diversity Committee, which monitors the department climate, promotes a healthy
