Research problem

For the Research Paper, I will be researching on Buddhism in most west countries and most

importantly Buddhism in China. Buddhism being one of the oldest religions in the world many

people are interested to know how it came into existence and its history as do I. I will also go

forward and look at how Buddhism has influenced life’s either positively or negatively and the

influence it has on Globalization. Buddhism, a religion like the others, started in India and China

long ago and it’s the most growing type of religion and preferred by many people. Buddhism is

one of the most recognized religions in western culture and seen as the oldest as well (Williams,

2012). Moreover, Buddhism believers endure a lot and also face stiff opposition from the other

religions but share their lessons for Buddha and the objectives they believe in the cycle of

resurrection. Buddha religion may take diverse structures for instance, Theravada Buddhism, for

the most part utilized as a part of Southeast Asia, generally concentrates on the devout life and

reflection as intends to freedom (Williams, 2012). By the end of the Research, I will be capable to

understand better about the Buddhism Religion, where it came from, how it has affected people

either positively or negatively and most importantly how it has affected globalization; either

positively or negatively.

Literature review, evidence and methods

Buddhism has totally gained a new direction in the modern world compared to its state in

the early 90s. With the new knowledge of Buddhism religion and its influence in globalization,

people in the future will have better ideas on how to better the religion and do away with the

negative effects to globalization. As part of the Research, I will use several methods to investigate

on the developing Buddhism religion in the modern society and also research on how religion has

mutually been influenced by globalization either positively or negatively. In this case I will be able

to get the information about the competition they are facing from other religions and the methods

they are using to add more believers in their religion. Under this research I will use participant

observation where I will be visiting their worship place and collect data from what I see, I will also

use the archived books to compare Buddhism in the past and in the modern world. Moreover, I

will use questionnaire method where people will give different opinions and also different

reactions about the same. This way it will be easy for me to compile the information and come up

with a detailed research. I will also use interview method for the case of the old people since they

are well knowledgeable of different religions and gather some information from them.

Significance of the research

Buddhism, a religion like the others, is important and serves as a basis to the west countries.

Globalization on the other hand, serves a major role to the developing technology all over the

world. In some cases, globalizations may affect Buddhism negatively and some other times affect

positively. Carrying out this research will act as a reflection of the relationship between the

Buddhism religion and improving technology. Therefore, at the end of this research, I will be able

to come up with the findings on the relationship between Buddhism and globalization, the

challenges Buddhism is facing from the improving technology and globalization. On the other

hand I will be able to know how Buddhism has contributed to the improvement of globalization.

Lastly, I will come up with recommendations and possible solutions for the same which will in the

future serve in the betterment of Buddhism as well as globalization.
