Giraffe Lovey

Materials Needed
~ Hook sizes: 4.25/ G
3.25/ E
5.0/ H
~ Polyfil or some type of stuffing
~ 4 Ply Worsted Weight yarn
~ Stitch markers for each round

***This pattern is done in continuous rounds. Do NOT join after each round.***

Head (use G Hook) ~HELPFUL HINT: I began stuffing around round 16~

**Pattern starts at the nose (I used RHSS, color: buff)


Begin with a Magic Circle
Rnd 1: sc 4 in the circle
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around – (8)
Rnd 3: 2 sc in each st around – (16)
Rnd 4: *2 sc in the next st then 1 sc in the next*
repeat around - (24)

Rnds 5- 9: sc around – (24)
**Change color to main color** (I used HL I Love this Yarn, color: yellow)
Rnd 10: *2 sc in the next st then 1 sc in the next* repeat around – (36)
Rnd 11: sc in the next 4 sts, 1 sc dec, sc in the next 4 sts PLACE STITCH MARKER HERE
Count the next 17 st from the stitch marker just placed and PLACE STITCH MARKER HERE.
Continue the round with *2 sc in the next st then 1 sc in the next st* repeat for the next 16 st
Finish the round (starting in the stitch with the marker) with sc in the next 4 sts, 1 sc dec, sc in
the next 4 sts – (42)
Rnd 12: *sc dec, 1 sc in the next st* repeat x3, sc next 26, sc dec, 1 sc repeat x2, sc in last st-
(37)
Rnd 13- 17: sc around - (37)
Rnd 18: *sc in first 8 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts* repeat around, 1 sc in last st - (31)
Rnd 19: sc around - (31)
Rnd 20: *sc in next 4 sts, sc dec in next st* repeat around, 1 sc in last stitch - (26)
Rnd 21: *sc in next 3 sts, sc dec in next st*
repeat around, 1 sc in last st – (21)
Rnd 22: sc around - (21)
Rnd 23: *sc in next 2 sts, sc dec in next st*
repeat around, 1 in last st - (16)
Rnd 24: *sc in next 2 sts, sc dec* repeat
around – (12)
Rnd 25: sc dec around – (6)
Sl st in next st, fasten off
Weave tail through back loops of the sc from the previous round and pull tight (will close hole!)
leave a long tail for sewing

Face
I embroidered the facial features since mine was a gift for a new baby, but I’m sure safety eyes
would work great for older children.

Ears x2 (use E hook)
(I used the main body color for the ears. HL I Love this Yarn, color: yellow)
Begin with magic circle
R1: 6 sc in the ring
R2: 2 sc in each st around - (12)
R3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next* repeat around - (18)
R4: sc around - (18)
Sl st in next st and fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing

Horns x2 (use E hook) ~HELPFUL HINT: I stuffed after the horn was made~

**Pattern starts with top of horns (I used RHSS, color: coffee)


Begin with magic circle
Rnd 1: 4 sc in the ring
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (8)
Rnd 3-4: sc around (8)
Change color (I used the main body color. HL I Love this Yarn,
color: yellow)
Rnd 5- 8: sc around (8)
Sl st and fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing

Arms x2 (use E hook) ~ HELPFUL HINT: Stuff as you go. I stuffed every 2 rounds~

**Pattern starts with the hoof (I used RHSS, color: coffee)


Begin with magic circle
Rnd 1: 6 sc in the ring - (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around - (12)
Rnd 3-6: Sc around - (12)
Change colors (I used the main body color. HL I Love this Yarn, color: yellow)

Rnd 7: *1 sc, sc dec in the next st* repeat around - (8)
Rnd 8- 20: sc around - (8)
Rnd 21: *1 sc, sc dec next st* repeat around until you have 5 st left - (5)
Rnd 22: sc dec around
Fasten off and weave tail through back loops of the sc from the previous round and pull tight
(will close hole!) Leave long tail for sewing.

Blanket (I used an H hook)


For the blanket part you can use any square pattern you
desire and any hook size.
Be creative 
I used a solid granny square. I found a really easy to
follow pattern on Moogly’s blog:

I did 12 rounds and I felt it was the perfect size for a
smaller baby.

Circles on the blanket (I used an H hook)


- Circle 1 (Large)
Magic circle
Rnd 1: dc 6 in the ring – (6)
Rnd 2: ch 2, 2 dc in each st around - (12)

Join to the first dc of the round to make the circle and leave a long tail for weaving

- Circle 2 (Medium)
Magic circle
Rnd 1: dc 8 in the ring – (8)
Join to the first dc of the round to make the circle and leave a long tail for weaving

**Other colors look great too! The second one I made


was in lighter colors and he came out just as cute! You
can also make a bow or a flower for a girl giraffe too 
