Intern Name: Cegan Hinson
Topic/Subject of Lesson: Civil Rights Movement Review
Grade: 7
Date of Lesson Taught: 5/10/18
Cooperating Teacher: Mr. Brandon Miner
Cooperating School: Brandon Middle School
Time of Day: 11:15-12:45

1. What steps did you go through to create this lesson? With whom did you talk, discuss, or edit your
lesson?
I mostly talked with Mr. Miner for ideas and structure, but I also got some ideas from my parents and
peers.

2. How did the SOLs and Objectives help focus your instruction?
The Objectives were somewhat vague, but they did help determine the types of activities I made for my
students.

3. What parts of the instructional plan worked as you anticipated?

The Quizizz worked very well; the students enjoyed it and it gave me the necessary data to divide the
class into groups.

4. What, if any, adjustments needed to be made once you began?

I had to adjust some of the activities to fit a city-administered assessment the students needed to
complete that day; some students asked to move to the assessment after completing their Choice Board
activity.

5. How well did you anticipate the materials needed?

The materials were all available on Google Classroom, so everyone was able to access them.

6. How effective was the assessment you chose to use? (If no assessment was used, what will the future
assessment be and how will you gauge its effectiveness?)
The Quizizz excellently gauged the student’s understanding of the content.

7. To what degree do you feel that this lesson was a success? What evidence do you have for the success of
the lesson? (Hint: Student learning is the key to a lesson’s success!)
The lesson was a partial success; everyone was at least able to review the necessary information in some
way, even though it was slow to start at first.

8. How did the time spent preparing for your lesson contribute to it’s success?
Preparation time did help ensure I knew how the lesson should flow.

9. If you could do this lesson again with the same students, would you do anything differently? If so, what?
I would better explain the grouping, possibly even doing the Quizizz the class before so I have time to
peruse the data and make better groups.
