to hove foiled under normol instollotion ond operoting condi-
tions ond when operoted ot roted voltoges within o period of

hereunder ond in no event sholl the Monufocturer be lioble for
lobor chorges orising from the chonging of defective fixtures or

ORDERING INFORMATION
VOLTAGE AND FREOUENCY. The standard electrical
rating of Sylvania's fluorescent fixtures is 120 or 277 volts
60 Hertz (cycles) AC. Voltage must be shown on order,
lnformation on other variations will be supplied on requ€st.
LAMPHOLDERS. All Rapid Start fluorescent fixtures
are equipped with lampholders employing silver plated
contacts for e{fective starting under extreme operaling
conditions.
MINIMUM TEMPERATURE LIMITATION. Standard
fluorescent fixtures are designed to start and.operate most
effectively at temperatures no lower than 50-F.
LABELS. All standard Sylvania Fixtures bear the Under-
writers and the AF L-IBEW Labels.

STAR STOCK CTASSIFICATION
A STAR sYMEO L * is used throughout the ordering Guide to indicate those items that are normatty shipped irom stock.
These items may or may not be in local iield warehouse stocks, However, they are those items which are automatically
scheduled for production and inventory and are not necessarily restricted to high volume types. Sylvania recognizes that
fast delivery of less popular fixture sizes is often necessary so that a complete lighting package can be shipped to your

CTASS P BAILASTS
Class P fluorescent ballasts are used in those Sylvania Brand - lndoor fluorescent fixtures to complv with the UL
interpreration of ballast protection as required by the Nationat Etectrical Code.
The development of the Class P ballast standards was due to the opinion expressed by the Code Panel that misapplications
such as high supply voltage, inadequate lamp maintenance practices and improper fixture application coutd resulr in a
troublesome installation. U.L. now specifies thal a protector should be located within the battast to prevent tampering or
damage and should be either a non-resetting (thermal fuse) type or an automatic resetting lthermostatic) type both of which
would be designed to remove the ballast from the circuit when the ballast case temperature reaches 1 10"C l soc Jol. uny
period of time under abnormal conditions.

When we consider that the tolerances of the ballast protecrors are set for deactivation at 1lOoC:t 5"C and the normal
tolerances of ballasr manufacture the "danger" zonecan beat toz"cto l12"c. This, combined with effect of ceiting
materials, ambient temperatures, {ixture mounting and normal variations in lamp wattage consumptjon, can lead to nuisance
outages unless the specifier is supplied with factuat data which enables him to make a recommendation with his oarricutar
variables taken into accoLlnt.

Sylvania provides guidelines and testing data Ior all units with Class P ballasts.. Sylvania heat performance dala is available
to all specifiers ot Sylvania lighting equipment.
