1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this procedure is to get complete joint protection by fast tape
wrapping (for under ground service) within proper time when the coated pipe is
installed and to get complete anti corrosion effect by fast repair within proper time
when the coated pipe was damaged.

2. SCOPE

This procedure shall be applied to field joint in job site for anticorrosion while coated
pipe is installed and applied to repair methods for defect which may occur during
storage, transportation and handling of line pipe as per Betara complex
Development Project requirement.

3. APPLICABLE CODE & SPEC

- BCD3-300-44-SPC-4-306-00 Specification for Pipeline Joint Coating

4. WORK ORGANIZATION

1. The field joint coating crew would be supervised by piping supervisor in applying
the coating on the welding joint and repair damage coating in accordance with
this procedure.
2. QC Inspector shall check to ensure that applied coating meet the project
specification.

5.3. Consumables used

5.3.1. Surface preparation and pre-heat coating application or coating repair would be
performed on:
 Water Disposal Line welds joint.
 Butane Gas Line welds joint
 Butane Crude Line welds joint.
5.3.2. Application of repair material for line pipe coating and damage top/protective coat.
 Polyken 934 or Servi-Wrap HCB for weld joint of underground pipe line except
HDD crossing.

6. WORK METHODS AND INSTRUCTION

6.1. Field joint coating

Installation instructions for wrapping joint protection as follow :

6.1.1. Preparation - 1
Clean exposed steel and adjacent pipe coating to be covered by wrapping using
suitable means. Remove all contaminant such as oil, grease, and dirt. Use a
solvent that contains no grease or oil type materials.

6.1.2. Preparation - 2
All bare steel surface shall be cleaned with dry brushes referred to SSPC-SP-3.

6.1.3. Preparation - 3
Hand tool cleaning is only permitted in tightly space areas where it is not possible to
operate power tools. Hand tool shall be done in accordance with SSPC-SP-2
followed by brushing with clean dry brushes.

6.1.4. Pre-Heating
Immediately prior to primer application, the pipe shall be cleaned to remove any
wetness or others contamination. The pipe shall be heated, if necessary to achieve
a surface a surface temperature of approximately 30 0C to 400C.

6.1.5. Primer Applied

Immediately after preheating, apply the primer to the clean, dry pipe surface. Primer
shall be hand applied on new pipe in a uniformly thin film, free from runs, bubbles,
sags, dust, grass or foreign matter.
Primer shall completely cover the circumference of the pipe and all surfaces that
are to be coated. A minimum overlap is 100 mm on the ends of the pipe coating on
either side of the field joint.

6.1.6. Application -1
The surface shall be spirally wrapped with a minimum of 50 mm overlap. The
wrapping extend 75 mm onto the pipe coating at one side of the joint and terminate
75 mm onto the pipe coating on the other side. Sufficient tension shall be applied to
ensure that the tape and filler comply with the surface of the pipe

6.1.7. Application - 2
The second wrap shall be applied so that the angle of the spiral is opposite of the
first wrap.

6.2. Coating Repair Procedure

6.2.1. Repair procedure of coated steel pipe

A. Applied patch sheet for expose bare steel damaged area :

1. Before repairing the damaged area, check shape of the damaged area

2. At this time, all coating from an area extending at least 50 mm on all sides of
the damage shall be removed and the surface in accordance with SSPC-SP-3

3. Remove dirt, scale, grease and other contaminants which impair the adhesion
of the repair material

4. The area shall be reprimed and coated with Polyken 934

B. Applied patch sheet for not exposed bare steel damaged area:

1. Before repairing the damaged area, check shape of the damaged area

2. Remove dirt, scale, grease and other contaminants which impair the adhesive
of the repair material.

3. Remove the damage coating to provide a clean binding surface for the repair
material.
