Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

a. Preparation
1. Drill
Good Afternoon class! Before we start
please pick up the pieces of paper under
your chairs.

Now let can we have (name) to lead us (Students own prayer)

in a short prayer.

b. Review (The students will review about their

previous lesson about definitions and
Motivation characteristics of communications)
(A video presentation of a TV commercial
showing different ways to communicate)

Now class, what have you observed on the

video clip? (Students raise hands)
(Teacher calls the student’s name) The video shows people communicating
with one another.

Nilerfeoj D. Ines, Bachelor of Science in Development Communication 1|Page

Yes, correct. What else? (Students raise hands)
(Teacher calls the student’s name) The people were communicating in
different ways.
Hence, how could these forms of
communication differs from one another? The first person in the clip is talking to
himself, while the other scenario shows
two people who are talking to one
another. The other part of the video
seems like friends exchanging stories
with one another.

So what does the video wants to convey to

the viewers?
(Teacher calls the student’s name) (Students raise hands)
It shows that a person’s form of
communication may vary depending on
the situation they are in.
Yes, you’re right. Thus, the video clearly
shows that because people have different
purpose when it comes to communicating
they also have to use different forms or
ways in order for them to communicate and
be understood by others properly.

However, don’t you think that a single

form of communication would be enough
for us to interact with others, as well as to
understand them? No, ma’am!

Why?
Because, if we could only communicate
using a single form of communication we
might find it hard to make decision or
agree with others.
Yes, very well said. This is because
humans use various ways to communicate
with their selves and with other people
depending on the situation or purpose of
the interaction.

c. Lesson Proper

So now, what do you think is the relation

of that video to our new lesson?
(Teacher calls the student’s name) (Students raise hands)
Ma’am, I think that our topic for today is
all about forms of communication.

Nilerfeoj D. Ines, Bachelor of Science in Development Communication 2|Page

Yes, you’re right. So our new lesson for
today is all about identifying and using
different forms of communication in proper
situation.

So, the first form is what we refer to as

Intrapersonal Communication. Are you
familiar with this form of communication? No ma’am!

Okay. I will give you brief information

about this. So, the word intra means
“within” or “into”. Thus, when we say
intrapersonal communication we are
talking to ourselves.

Is that clear? Yes, ma’am!

However, what do you think with be the

purpose of communicating or talking to (Students raise hands)
yourself? Ma’am, I think it is for us to think clearly
(Teacher calls the student’s name) before we could speak with others.

Very good, what else? (Students raise hands)

(Teacher calls the student’s name) I think, this is used in order for us to
make right decisions.

Yes, that is correct! Intrapersonal

communication is use when we want to
reflect on our possible actions, thinking on
how to decide or how to express your ideas
to be understood by other and of course to
condition yourself in becoming confident.

Could anyone share their experience where

they had used intrapersonal communication
in a certain situation? (Students raise hands)
(Teacher calls the student’s name) (Recall and tell the class about their
story)

Thank you (name of student) for sharing

your experience. Class, do you now
understand Intrapersonal communication? Yes ma’am!

That’s good; now, let’s proceed to the next

form of communication. Can anyone guess

Nilerfeoj D. Ines, Bachelor of Science in Development Communication 3|Page

the second form of communication? (Students raise hands)
(Teacher calls the student’s name) The next form of communication is the
one that we use when we are talking with
another person.
Yes, that’s correct, and this form of
communication is called Interpersonal
communication. However, Interpersonal
communication could be categorized as
Dyadic or small group interpersonal
communication.

Can anyone guess what is the difference

between Dyadic and small group
communication, given that they are both (Students raise hands)
under interpersonal communication? The dyadic might be composed of only
(Teacher calls the student’s name) two people while the small group could
be composed of more than two people.

Yes, that’s right. In addition, a dyadic

interpersonal communication refers to two
people exchanging ideas or information
with one another. Therefore, there is an
exchange of role both could be the receiver
and sender. On the other hand, in a small
group interpersonal communication more
than two people becomes the source and
receiver through sharing or giving of
feedback.

Do you get it class? Yes ma’am!

Could now someone give me a situation

where a dyadic interpersonal
communication be used? (Students raise hands)
(Teacher calls the student’s name) (narrate a scenario)

Excellent!

How about a situation featuring the use of

a small group interpersonal
communication?
(Teacher calls the student’s name) (Students raise hands)
(narrate a scenario)
That was a brilliant example for the topic,
thank you very much. I can see that you
can understand the lesson very well, is that
right? Yes, Ma’am!

Nilerfeoj D. Ines, Bachelor of Science in Development Communication 4|Page

Okay, moving to next form of
communication we have what we refer to
as public communication.

What comes to your mind when here of the

term public communication? (Students raise hands)
(Teacher calls the student’s name) Ma’am because of the word public I
believe that is communicating with a
large group of people.

Yes you are correct, but, what do you think

would be the difference it has with the (Students gives his/her idea)
small group interpersonal communication?

Thus, public communication is different

seems it only has a single person as a
source of messages or information while
there is a huge number of audience that
would receive the idea.

How do you see public communication

base from this? (Students raise hands)
(Teacher calls the student’s name) I think in public communication there is
no mutual feedback between the source
and receiver unlike the small group
Very good, what else? interpersonal communication.
(Teacher calls the student’s name) (Students raise hands)
Public communication only focused on
the speaker.
Yes, that’s true. Thus, in this form of
communication the central purpose of
communication is just to inform and not to
get feedback.

Can you give an example of this? (Students raise hands)

(Teacher calls the student’s name) (narrate a scenario)

Thank you (name of student), that is such a

good example.

Do you have other questions about this

before we move forward? None, ma’am!

Good, at this point we only have one last

form of communication and this is the
mass communication.

Nilerfeoj D. Ines, Bachelor of Science in Development Communication 5|Page

Could anybody share their thoughts about
this last form of communication? (Students raise hands)
(Teacher calls the student’s name) Ma’am, I know that it also involves large
number of audience because of the word
“mass”.

However, can anyone from the class tell us

the difference between mass and public (Students raise hands)
communication? I think mass communication uses the aid
(Teacher calls the student’s name) of various media such as the television,
radio, and internet.
Yes, that is the case. Moreover, aside from
using technological tools or media, mass
communication has very less or delayed
feedback. It also doesn’t require all
audience to group their selves into a certain
area. Also there is no direct access with the
receiver in this form of communication.
Nevertheless, this is the fastest way to
inform others in a single delivery from the Yes, Ma’am!
source.

Do you now understand it class?

(Students raise hands)
D. Generalization The lesson is all about the forms of
To sum up, what was the lesson all about? communication and how they differ from
(Teacher calls the student’s name) one another.

(Students raise hands)

Very good. So what have you learned on The topic would make me think of the
the topic that you could use in your life? proper form of communication to use in
(Teacher calls the student’s name) certain situations.

Very well said. Can anyone give an

example on how one could decide on the
form of communication could they use in a
particular situation?
(Teacher calls the student’s name) (Students raise hands)
Ma’am, for example there would be a
coming typhoon in our area and people
need to be ready for this. Thus, the proper
form of communication to use for this
That is a superb example. It only shows situation is mass communication.
that learning the various forms of
communication is a big help not just in
school but in all aspects of life.
