This course is delivered by NPT Heart’s qualified Trainers and Clinical Instructors as a ‘hands on’
program, delivered at the training offices of National Patient Transport Pty Ltd, the leader of NEPT
services within Victoria. This provides students with a unique opportunity to train and operate
within a real life workplace setting.

The course has been designed as a mixed mode delivery program which includes a combination of
e-learning, pre-reading workbooks and assessments coupled with face to face practical sessions.
Due to the practical nature of the classroom based sessions, students should enrol as soon as
possible to provide sufficient time to complete the mandatory pre-reading and assessment tasks.

The face-to-face training includes 15 days with 3 blocks of 5 x 8 hour class room sessions. The blocks
may be undertaken consecutively or undertaken in 3 separate blocks based on the individual’s
availability. In addition to the 15 days of face-to-face training, students will require to complete
their e-learning, pre-reading and assessments. It is estimated that this will require a further 10-12
weeks to complete however students may be able to complete in a shorter time based on the
students prior knowledge and experience. This work must be undertaken prior to attendance at
the face-to-face classroom sessions. Students will have up to 12 months to complete this course.

As some of the course material and assessments will be accessed through an e-learning package,
students must have access to a reliable computer with MS Office or MAC equivalent, printer,
internet access. Subject fees do not include computers, printers, software and/or internet access.

The face-to-face component of the course is conducted over 3 blocks of 5 days which are held over
consecutive weeks i.e. 15 days of face to face training and assessment. Participants have the option
to either enrol in the 3 consecutive blocks or enrol in individual blocks of 1 week over a longer
period of time.

Driver training is held in Block 1 and work placements which includes 2 days ‘on the road’ working
with National Patient Transport’s crews in a real life setting is held in Block 3. One day is defined as
an “observer” shift where students are able to observe NPT crews working in a real life environment.
The other day is defined as a “work placement” where students will be working with a Clinical
Instructor and working under supervision with real patients.

From 1 January 2015 all students undertaking nationally recognised training delivered by a
registered training organisation will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

A USI gives students access to their online USI account which is made up of ten numbers and letters.
It will look something like this: 3AW88YH9U5. A USI account will contain all of a student’s nationally
recognised training records and results from 1 January 2015 onwards. A student’s results from 2015
will be available in their USI account in 2016.

Individuals who have a genuine personal objection to being assigned a USI can apply for an
exemption to the Student Identifiers Registrar. Please refer to https://www.usi.gov.au/training-
organisations/training-organisation-requirements/exemptions-individuals/how-apply for more
information.

HOW TO GET A USI

It is free and easy for students to create their own USIs online.

Steps to create a USI

Step 1 Have at least one and preferably two forms of ID ready from the list below:

• Driver’s Licence
• Medicare Card

student’s name as it appears on the form of ID used to create the USI. The personal details entered when a
student creates a USI must match exactly with those on their form of ID.

Step 2 Have contact details ready (e.g. email address, or mobile number, or address).

Step 3 Visit the USI website at: usi.gov.au.
