TV broadcasting is the ultimate downfall of presidential elections and therefore produces the
negative influence presented upon Americans. TV has affected who is elected, how fair and accessible
and an election is, and has moved candidates from pursuing issues to pursuing images.
Tv has affected who is elected. Although "television gave a rise to the belief that a new era was
opening in public communication"…"televisions with its penetration, its wide geographic distribution
and impact provides a new, direct, between Washington and the people" (Source A). The impact
presented is the restoration of "immediate contact with political events" therefore leading the to the
audience forming a gullible relationship with the television and whatever comes out.
Tv has affected how fair and accessible an election is because of "who controls what" therefore
enhances what many of the candidates began pursuing as "issues" and their "images". in 1960, due to
"Kennedy's crisp" and "Nixon's-light colored suit, wrong makeup, and bad posture (Source C)" in which
all effects "who won the nation away from sounds to images. This is exact proof of the quality of the
images of the presidential candidates affects the accessibility of a true and fair president. The people
"who controls what" are the broadcasters in which leads to an unfair election.
The audience of televisions had become so drawn in and gullible to the information
presented that even President Lyndon Johnson had grown to make decisions based on of his
news reports. Lyndon thought that if "Walter Cronkite thought that the war was hopeless, the
American people would think so too, and the only thing left to do was to wind down". Lyndon
had later announced that " he was ending the naval bombardment in most of Vietnam". The
President of the United States had made a political decision based off a news reports. Television
had not only negatively affected American citizens but has taken over the leader of our country.
The overall message the television delivers is that "if he/she said it, it has to be true".
The only solution to the issue of television broadcasting is for the people to go to the
elections and debates themselves. This is the only uncensored solution to hearing the truth.
News broadcast systems have admitted to it being censored because " it is a joke to call an
event like the one that transpired tonight a debate" and the only reason they are successful is
because they are "able to pull the best three minutes out of the ninety-minute event (Source
F)".
