WHY POLARITY TEST OF CT IS VERY

Interview Question Submitted By :: Raj
I also faced this Question!! © ALL Interview .com

Answer CT works on subtractive polarity. It is 0 Raghavendran.r

essential for
reducing the flux build up in the CT
secondary, otherwise
immense flux build up will cause
insulation burn out.Also
the CT secondary should not be left
open.

The other power transformers work on

additive polarity
principle.Hence it is required to check
the polarity.
Answer to check that mmf is in additive 0 Naresh Chandra
polarity or subtractive , Jha
polarity polarity test is important
because in case of
additive polarity (primary mmf and
secondary mmf in same
direction direction ) insulation may get
damage .

with IR loss minimisation, Regards,

Answer C.R.G.O (Cold-rolled grain-oriented 0 Guest

sheet steel) is used for reducing the
core losses in transformers.
Each type of steel has "grains" which
consist of "domains". These "domains"
are nothing but electrical charges
oriented in any random direction.

Core loss= Hysteresis + Eddy Current

Loss

Reduction of hysteresis loss:

(1)The size of the "grains" in a CRGO
steel are purposely "grown" & made
bigger & are about 10 times the size of
the grains in regular steel.
(2)The grains in CRGO steels are all
aligned almost parallel to the
direction of rolling of the steel(i.e
the length of the steel).

Reduction of eddy current loss:

A special carlite insulation coating on
the steel being done so as to reduce
the eddy current loss.
Answer this material when magnetized in the 0 Manoj
rolling direction,has
low core loss and high permeability.

Answer crgo is cold rolled grain 0 Divya Pundir

oriented........steel used 4 tf is
cold rolled because it allows a much
higher flux density of
around 1.8wb/m2 as compared to hot
rolled steel...nd
therefore making it possible 2 minimize
the core material nd
hence d core losses ..............

Answer usually induction motors are called 0 Meenakshi

rotating transformers.
in such motors, transfer of energy takes
place from stator
to rotor inductively with the help of
flux mutually linking
the two.thus induction motors acts as
transformer vid
stator forming the primary n rotor

hydrogen content is
released from the transformer oil when
burns when reaches
air at the top of tank ...so
conservator is used to allow
hydrogen flow upto it between which a
BUCHolz relay get
operated.

Answer Two main roles of conservator: whenever 0 Sks

high electrical
stress are produces inside the
transformer due to fault
then temprature raise of oil it gives
contraction effect &
gases also produced inside the main
tank then it takes a
path to release the pressure via
bucholze reley to the
conservator & breather releases the
gas.
oil possible to store inside the
conservator as per
capacity.

Answer Oil filled trasformers with a 0 Varun

conservator,an oil tank above the
transformer,tend to be equipped with
the bucholz relays. These are the safety
devices that detect the build of te
gases,acetylene,inside the
transformer,due to te corona or
electric arcs in the windings and
switch of the supply...
Transforms without conservators
usally equipped with the pressure
relays wich as similar function as te
buchholz relay...
Answer reserve oil tank is know as 0 Thul_dhul@yahoo.com
conservator

Answer Two main roles of conservator: 0 S.murugesan

1) Due to temperature variation
the transformer oil
volume varied it was compensated by
conservator and will
allow pure air inside the TR.
2) To maintain the oil level
inside the
transformers.
