May 28, 2018 – Monday

First day of our OJT in the proposed road heightening and tide embankment
for section 3 and 4 in Tacloban City and Palo, Leyte. First, Engr. Timkang
conducted an introduction on the things that we should expect and things that we
will do for the week. Then after that, we proceeded to the site and there I observed
a lot of operations by heavy machineries and by hardworking laborers. I observed
a lot of activities including the spreading of filling materials to the embankment
above the geotextile, hauling of filling materials for the embankment in sta. 7+520
– 7+540 and the sloping in the landside area near sta. 7+600. I was assigned to
monitor the backhoe operated by Joel Colon and at this first day, he assisted the
pouring of concrete in the landside area near sta. 7+ 520.With actual
measurements taken, we computed the total volume which is 4.447 cu. m.

May 29, 2018 – Tuesday

What was assigned for me yesterday is the thing I will do for the rest of the
week. So for today Joel Colon, assisted the pouring of concrete near the sta. 7+400
– sta 7+550, landside area. Most of the time of the day, Joel assisted the pouring
of concrete and we estimated the volume of concrete with actual measurements
to be 4.47 cu.m in the morning and 4.84 cu.m at the afternoon. Other operations
by the other backhoe was excavation, levelling of ground surface and compaction
at the embankment area.

May 30, 2018 – Wednesday

This day was a bit of a cloudy and a bit of a rainy day. I have observed lots
of operations conducted by the different backhoes. Joel Colon cleared the area in
the riverside near sta. 7+600 and covered the swampy area with filling materials
for the pathway of the WTG construction firm which will continue the tide
embankment. The other backhoe operations were segregation of boulders,
compacting and leveling of filling materials, lifting of machines and reinforcements
and one backhoe operated by Ysmael assisted the pouring of concrete at the slope
at landside area near Sta. 7 +600. With actual measurments taken, we were able
to find the volume of the concrete poured which is 7.7346 cu.m. At 4:00 pm, I
was able to observe the number of laborers in the site. This include 4 backhoe
operators, 4 men cleaning the forms, 1 dam truck driver, 13 men working on the
forms and reinforcements in the RCBC section, 4 men setting up the elevation and
3 men helping in the excavation near the riverside.
May 31, 2018 – Thursday
Last day in the site, we bring with us the drawing plan for the project. With
this, we were able to understand more on the activities the laborers are doing
specifically the section at the RCBC which has complicated reinforcements. The
other backhoe operations include segregation of boulders for the riprap at the
embankment at sta. 7+400 – sta. 7+550, leveling and compaction of ground
surface at the landside area. Also, I have observed the different stuffs the laborers
are doing, these are: cleaning of forms, working of the RCBC and the riprap at the
top embankment.
