περὶ τοῦ θηρίου τοῦ carefully concerning the
τετάρτου ὅτι ἦν fourth beast, because it
διάφορον παρὰ πᾶν was different from every
θηρίον φοβερὸν beast, exceedingly
περισσῶς οἱ ὀδόντες terrifying; its teeth were
αὐτοῦ σιδηροῖ καὶ οἱ iron, and its claws
ὄνυχες αὐτοῦ χαλκοῖ bronze, devouring and
ἐσθίον καὶ λεπτῦνον καὶ pulverizing, and it
τὰ ἐπίλοιπα τοῖς ποσὶν stamped what was left
αὐτοῦ συνεπάτει with its feet,

20 καὶ περὶ τῶν 20 and concerning the

κεράτων αὐτοῦ τῶν ten Horns that were on
δέκα τῶν ἐν τῇ κεφαλῇ the head of it and of the
αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῦ ἑτέρου other one, which came
τοῦ ἀναβάντος καὶ up and cast out the
ἐκτινάξαντος τῶν earlier three, which had
προτέρων τρία κέρας eyes and a mouth
ἐκεῖνο ᾧ οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ speaking great things,
καὶ στόμα λαλοῦν and its appearance was
μεγάλα καὶ ἡ ὅρασις greater than the rest.

τὸ τέταρτον βασιλεία the fourth beast, there
τετάρτη ἔσται ἐν τῇ γῇ shall be a fourth
ἥτις ὑπερέξει πάσας τὰς kingdom on the earth,
βασιλείας καὶ which shall surpass all
καταφάγεται πᾶσαν τὴν the kingdoms, and it
γῆν καὶ συμπατήσει shall devour the whole
αὐτὴν καὶ κατακόψει earth, and stamp it and
destroy.

24 καὶ τὰ δέκα κέρατα 24 And as for its ten 'Ep of Barnabus 4:4d
αὐτοῦ δέκα βασιλεῖς Horns, ten kings shall
ἀναστήσονται καὶ ὀπίσω arise, and another shall
αὐτῶν ἀναστήσεται arise behind<a> them
ἕτερος ὃς ὑπεροίσει who shall surpass in evil
κακοῖς πάντας τοὺς all the previous ones.
ἔμπροσθεν καὶ τρεῖς and he shall humble
βασιλεῖς ταπεινώσει three kings.

25 καὶ λόγους πρὸς τὸν 25 And he shall speak

ὕψιστον λαλήσει καὶ words against the Most
τοὺς ἁγίους ὑψίστου High and shall wear out
παλαιώσει καὶ the holy ones of the
ὑπονοήσει τοῦ Most High and shall
ἀλλοιῶσαι καιροὺς καὶ consider in order to
νόμον καὶ δοθήσεται ἐν change seasons and law,
χειρὶ αὐτοῦ ἕως καιροῦ and it shall be given into
καὶ καιρῶν καὶ ἥμισυ his hand for a time and
καιροῦ times and half a time.

26 καὶ τὸ κριτήριον 26 And the court sat in

καθίσει καὶ τὴν ἀρχὴν judgment. and they shall
μεταστήσουσιν τοῦ remove his rule, to
ἀφανίσαι καὶ τοῦ obliterate and to destroy
ἀπολέσαι ἕως τέλους completely.

27 καὶ ἡ βασιλεία καὶ ἡ 27 And the kingdom and
ἐξουσία καὶ ἡ the authority and the
μεγαλωσύνη τῶν greatness of the kings,
βασιλέων τῶν ὑποκάτω which are under the
παντὸς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ whole heaven, was
ἐδόθη ἁγίοις ὑψίστου given to the holy ones of
καὶ ἡ βασιλεία αὐτοῦ the Most High, and his
βασιλεία αἰώνιος καὶ kingdom is an
πᾶσαι αἱ ἀρχαὶ αὐτῷ everlasting kingdom and
δουλεύσουσιν καὶ all dominions shall be
ὑπακούσονται slaves and heed him.”

28 ἕως ὧδε τὸ πέρας 28 As for me, Daniel, my

τοῦ λόγου ἐγὼ Δανιηλ thoughts were greatly
ἐπὶ πολὺ οἱ διαλογισμοί troubling me, and my
μου συνετάρασσόν με appearance was
καὶ ἡ μορφή μου changed, and I kept the
ἠλλοιώθη ἐπ᾽ ἐμοί καὶ τὸ matter in my heart.

Chapter 4:3a ...The final stumbling-block approaches,

4:3b concerning which it is written,
4:3c as Enoch [Daniel]32 says,
4:3d “For for this end the Lord has cut short
4:3e the times and the days,
4:3f that His Beloved may hasten;
4:3g and He will come to the inheritance.”
4:4a And the prophet also speaks thus:
4:4b “Ten kingdoms shall reign upon the earth,
4:4c and a little king shall rise up after them,
4:4d who shall subdue under one three of the kings.”33
4:5a In like manner Daniel says concerning the same
4:5b “And I beheld the fourth beast,
4:5c wicked and powerful, and more savage
4:5d than all the beasts of the earth,
