FLY TO

AUSTRALIA!
Date/Ra: 12th February/peepuere,
2018.

Child/Tama: Yasir.

Teacher/Kaiako: Naema.

Asalamo Alaikum, Today when I asked children to help

me setup the play dough table Samera picked and put
the solar system mats on the table. We were talking
about planets, space rockets and how we travel. When Yasir overheard us and came to the
play-dough table still holding his dinky car in his hand, to get my attention he said, “Teacher
I will make fire for the rocket.” I asked why he wanted to make fire for a rocket, he said I
don’t know. After a short pause I added what he thinks the force of the fire may cause it to
fly in the air. I saw a spark in his eye and he said, “Yes, I want it to go Australia, to see my
mum.” “I asked him what his mum is doing over there.” He said his mum is living over there
and put a piece of a play dough close to the rocket and said this is my mum’s home and
pretended to fly in the plane.

During my relieving in An-Nur I noticed Yasir loves playing with cars and trucks and mostly
races them around. To know more about him I looked at his profile. I found out his last story
was about his Belonging/ Mana Whenua and Contribution/Mana Tangata and how he has
been learning alongside other children and caring about his environment and repairing the
story books along with teacher and other children.

My observation is almost similar as it is evidence how he has been enjoying the preschool’s
stimulating environments and actively participating alongside other children/ Tuakana Teina
to extend his learning about the world around him.

I observed his developing thinking and reasoning, extending his language to express his
feeling and able to communicate. As mentioned in Te Whariki children develop the
vocabulary and techniques to investigate and communicate/ Mana reo ideas about their
world. As I observed, Yasir join us at play-dough table to express his feelings about his family
and how he wants to visit them using ideas and wide range of materials /he koorero aa -
waha.

Staff will continue setting the environments and equipment in such a way to engage Yasir in
collaborative learning and communicating. We will further support him to develop his
interest in finding more about vehicles and means of transport.
We will be ensure reciprocal relationship with Yasir by asking him open ended questions and
encourage him to talk during “Mat time” and ‘free play’. This will foster his language,
thinking, reasoning and problem solving skills.
