WE WELCOME the family and friends of Lucas Wilders who is to be baptised in the service

REFLECTION These two parables of secret growth are companion pieces. The first makes a
Bell ringing [ ] serious point about what is and what is not our responsibility in growing the kingdom. We sow
the seed and we harvest it, but everything in between is beyond our powers. The parable of the
Junior Church/young peoples’ groups [ ] mustard seed takes this a bit further, with the kind of wry humour so typical of Jesus’ stories.
Mustard seed is a weed, and dreadfully hard to eradicate. So we have to be ready to rejoice if
I would like to subscribe to the church magazine [ ] the seeds we are given produce unexpected, untidy kingdom growth.

MASHAM YOUTH GROUP Meets on Thursdays in term-time from 6.00 – 7.15p.m.(mostly in
the Town hall but sometimes in St. Mary’s Church). It is open to anybody in year 5 or above is
welcome. What do we do? A lot of different things - treasure hunts, games, cooking, outings,
sleepovers, discos and eating! Organised by St. Mary’s Church. For further details please

SNAPE OPEN GARDENS Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July, 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
A variety of gardens, nearly 20 to date, will be open, many are wheelchair accessible.
Refreshments in the Institute from 10.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.
Plant Sale both days, come on Saturday to get the best of the selection!
Bedale Brass Band will play on Sunday afternoon starting at 1.30 p.m.

A CELEBRATION OF BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY LIFE
St. Mary’s Church, Masham Sunday 8th July 10.45 a.m.
Businesses mark an enormous and vital contribution to both our national and local community
life. This contribution however is often not properly acknowledged – as are the difficulties and
uncertainties inherent in commercial life. All members of our local community – and
particularly those involved in business of any kind – are invited to a special ‘Celebration of
Business’ on Sunday 8th July, at 10.45a.m. in Masham church. We will give thanks for their
contribution, pray for them and consider such issues as the challenge of fusing Christian values
with business life. The line between the sacred and the secular often separates the thinking and
understanding among Christian leaders and leaders in business who are also Christian yet the
essence of the faith requires integration in all areas of life, so why isn't there more common
ground?
All are welcome – business owners and staff - regular churchgoer or not.
Each business is asked to bring a symbol of their work – a product, logo or anything else – to
present during the service (it can be returned afterwards!)
We will be joined by members of Masham Methodist Church for the service.

2 CORINTHIANS 5: 6-10, 14-17
So we are always confident; even though we know that while we are at home
in the body we are away from the Lord— for we walk by faith, not by sight.
Yes, we do have confidence, and we would rather be away from the body and
at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim
to please him. For all of us must appear before the judgement seat of Christ, so
that each may receive recompense for what has been done in the body, whether
good or evil. For the love of Christ urges us on, because we are convinced that
one has died for all; therefore all have died. And he died for all, so that those
who live might live no longer for themselves, but for him who died and was
raised for them.
From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even
though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, we know him no
longer in that way. So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything
old has passed away; see, everything has become new!
MARK 4: 26-34
He also said, ‘The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter seed on the
ground, and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed would sprout and
grow, he does not know how. The earth produces of itself, first the stalk, then
the head, then the full grain in the head. But when the grain is ripe, at once he
goes in with his sickle, because the harvest has come.’
He also said, ‘With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable
will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the
ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up
and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that
the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.’
With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear
it; he did not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything in
private to his disciples.
