11th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Dear Parishioners,
The scripture readings today call on us
to have PATIENCE, TRUST and
PERSEVERANCE. Ezekiel, the prophet, was
speaking at a time when the Jewish people
were in exile and slavery in Babylon. It
took a lot of hope and trust to speak of a
return home in those dark days.
St Paul is “always full of confidence”
and speaks of “being exiled from the body
and make our home in the Lord”. For him,
being united with Jesus, dead or alive, is
central and this takes a lot of trust.
The two parables in the Gospel speak
of the kingdom of God and certainly
demand patience, trust and perseverance.
They remind us of a natural growth process
and any form of interference causes havoc.
When the mustard seed or grain which
resembles God’s word, is received in our
minds and hearts, a process of
development will begin. We need to give
time and space for this growth in faith and
spiritual development. Like the seed, our
faith needs to nurtured, fed and protected
in order to grow stronger.
We are living in an ‘INSTANT’ age …
press a button and you have instant
information/news; open a jar, you have
instant coffee! We are in an age when
waiting is not on! Waiting for buses, trains
or in queues … well, we get so frustrated! I
know I “go on a bit” at Mass, but some
people can’t get out the door quick enough!
I notice too, that the exit occurs whether
Mass lasts 40 minutes or 60 minutes. Have
a think!
The idea of Patience: we need to begin
with ourselves; we need to be aware of our
own limitations before we accuse others or
get impatient with others. In all of this, I am
clearly thinking of my own lack of patience.
I am very much aware that I am not able to
do things as I did twenty years ago in the
same time. It can be
so frustrating!
Anybody identify
with this? In the
end what I find
confusing is how we
have all these time
saving gadgets, but
there still isn’t
enough time!
If we really believe in God’s great love
for us, then we need to enter into that
‘Divine Flow’, and let it carry us along. We
are reminded that our mistakes can be
used in our favour. That’s the amazing
thing about God’s love for us.


Parish Pilgrimage: It would seem
that a visit to the Shrine of St James,
Santiago de Compostela is calling. A
number of people have indicated an
interest in the Camino … maybe 100 plus
kilometres next May would be possible.

choose too. Please write the photo number
and place it with the money in an envelope
with your child’s surname, and pass to Sr.
Devy or Germaine.
DECORATION VOLUNTEERS:
We have started the work to redecorate our
Parish Halls which are in need of some
attention. If you are able to give some hours
to this project, please put your name on the
list at the back of the church and lend us a
helping hand at a time that suits you.
Have a think - you don't have to be
Michelangelo to re-decorate!.

a former parishioner for nearly 30 years
and lived in Higham Road; sadly passed
away on 15th May, having just celebrated
his 90th birthday at the end of March.
His funeral will be at Christ the King
Church, Wimbledon Park on Tuesday
19th June at 10am, his local parish. See

PASTORAL PLANNING MEETING
Takes place on
Wednesday 20th June at 7:30pm.
It is good, now and then to have a look at
planning for the future. What are our parish
resources? What are the challenges we face
in the parish and the church in general?
We hope that members of our different
groups in the parish will be able to attend
and young representatives too are welcome.
