[Solved] Hard Disk Partitions Appears as RAW ,& Asks For Format
Disk Structure Corrupted & unreadable inaccessible
CHKDSK is not available for RAW drive

# Solution -1-
Use this Command
chkdsk /f X:
where X is the later of the Partition your need to apply this command to.
So, replace that "X" with the letter of the target partition.

1- Boot with Live CD, open a new Terminal

http://gparted.sourceforge.net/downlo...
2- Execute this command:
sudo fdisk -L
3- find my the name of Device boot which has issue
4- Execute the sudo ntfsfix /dev/sda2 (which is my c:)

Try to use this very Useful Program, called "Get Data Back"

Install & Activate then Program then
- from the main interface choose your case, in most times "quick scan / Sudden
partition loss" is Helpful,
- then Select your corrupted HDD,NEXT,NEXT,'Extracting MFT',NOW You can
browse your HDD Without fixing it,
- you can copy the files form inside the program to any place on any other
storage.
- save your important files then in worst case go formatting your corrupted HDD.

Have to add few lines,
1- After changing my internal SSD drive's signature from Raw - ntfs, still had
some issue to boot to OS
2- Removed the SSD and connected (inserted in external usb case) to anther
computer and ran chkdsk /F /R, took me few hours to wait until the chkdsk finish the
work
3- Install the disk on my laptop, was able to boot to OS with no issue. Thanks

Hey buddy, I am having this RAW problem since 4 years and still waiting for a solution, I
followed your way, but I need to do the second part which I couldn't do :(
I downloaded the Ubuntu software and did mount it on usb but I don't know how to do

This worked for me. I used disk management (Right click my computer -> manage) to get the
drive letter of my broken partition (it was G:).
Then opened an elevated command prompt (Start -> cmd -> Right click -> Run as
administrator)
and entered your command (chkdsk /f G:).
20 seconds later my SSD partition was readable again :)

I'd recommened to use Testdisk first (which is a Freeware.. Then do a 'Quick Search', followed
by a 'Deep Search' .. Keep chkdsk as the last option because you'd want to check the boot
sectors and the rest first... Thank You for the video :)

Great info. My External HD was showing as RAW, I was able to see the files using some
applications but running the chkdsk command it repaired. I forgot this DOS command, anyway,
I was not expecting that it would repair the structure, awesome. Congrats for posting the video.

just had my internal hard drive do the same thing it went from ntfs to raw overnight and goggle
search found this fix and after enlarging the screen on my ipad i did what it said and now all
working GREAT many many thanks as I had not backed up wedding photos of my daughters

I browsed trough sooooo many pages n crap
describing to solve the problem with testDisk which takes ages. Soved it instantly!
I have a 1Tb Silicon Power external drive and one partition went RAW on it out of the blue. The
odd thing is it only appeared as RAW on Windows 7. On XP, Vista or other machines even Linux
all was fine. Anyway, thank you again!

So I searched the web and some solutions were to format the disk,
but I have important documents on my disk,

thanks. i followed the video and it worked for me, the drive is back in "my computer".
however, there was a folder containing around 250gb of data which is not in the drive.
but the drive is taking space same as before. a new hidden folder named "found.000"
appears. but when i try to open that it says "found.000 is not accessible, access is denied". i tried
changing permission through security tab to all allowed and guess what!! it worked! :) i found
that lost folder's content in that "found.000". thanks again

Here what I did:
1- Boot with Live CD, open a new Terminal
2- Execute this command: sudo fdisk -L
3- find my the name of Device boot which has issue
4- Execute the sudo ntfsfix /dev/sda2 (which is my c:)

not go with chkdsk... and finally i try it with your method and bang 2 hours later it works save

Have to add few lines,
1- After changing my internal SSD drive's signature from Raw -> ntfs, still had some issue
to boot to OS
2- Removed the SSD and connected (inserted in external usb case) to anther computer
and ran chkdsk /F /R, took me few hours to wait until the chkdsk finish the work 3- Install the
disk on my laptop, was able to boot to OS with no issue.

trying to follow the steps given but my micro sd card was in the middle of a file transfer when it

this worked for us, thank you. We used the terminal in DEFT to type the "sudo fdisk -L"
command, it didnt work at first but then the linux context assitant popped up and said we had to
reference the location of the drive and gave us a list of the drives connected, once we typed the
path "sudo Fdisk -L" fixed the raw partition. THANK YOU!

Hi everybody.
I would appreciate anybodys help please.
My 4TB external harddrive was working normally until the usb part broke off where the usb
cable connects to the enclosure and I had to replace the enclosure.
Since replacing the enclosure the harddrive cannot be accessed and says it needs to be
formatted and its RAW.
Does anybody know how I can fix this? Windows Disk Management says there is 493GB healthy
partition and 1.7TB unallocated and 1.6TB unallocated space but I never partitioned it before?
Please help? I would appreciate it.

i use check disk command only. X is to replace with the drive of your problem.
for example:
u have a problem on d drive..
just replace x with d.

this is the ONLY place where i found something usefull. In case someone is going through the
same, my partition was with a RAW format, i extracted all my files from it just to format the
partition because i gave up after a few hrs,
but all (installation CD, win7 8.1, paragon, test disk, hdd management, nothing could

"get data back" very useful program full of false positives or what? 13/57 is a lot.
I dont want to run it in a sandbox to see for myself, but is it legit or..?

I just found that i can access my files from ubuntu which is installed in the same external hard
drive on a different partition. PS: i use multi boot

it's chkdsk not chkdisk & there is no ':' after 'f' !!.
here is the right command
chkdsk /f /X:
where X is the later of the Partition your need to apply this command to.
So, replace that "X" with the letter of the target partition.

you have to use Linux os to execute this command on your disk
[ sudo ntfs fix <DriveLetter> ]
then go back to windows & again execute this command which is supposed to work now
[ chkdsk /f x: ]

another thing you can do is to use "get data back" tool, check the description for it. you
can browse your disk, copying files from it without fixing it.

you can change it to RAW by editing the partition type in the "Partition Table" of your
disk.
- Change the type to value "00"

No luck at all I'm afraid ....got it running finally but cant do ntfs fix as apparently there something
wrong with ntfs signature. Managed to do recovery with Recover My Files but all files/folders

PLEASE....basically there is almost 1TB of various media files on corrupt Seagate drive, Recovery
programs I have used rename the files and I dont need all of that there is on the drive.If I can get

in your case you have to use Linux, like in the end of the video.
if your drive is "flash memory drive /stick" then nothing will fix it.
this will work for external hard drive

i tried 2nd way with my ubuntu - it did not help (said it was damaged beyond repair or
something "inrecoverable error"). I needed to use commercial tool NTFS RECOVERY
TOOLKIT. MBR was damaged (i needed to fix it) and then i restored the parition.

hey bro i have problem with my external hard drive.... I tried formatting it to NTFS (Default) and
it tells me that the format was unsuccessful. THEN it tells me that I have to format the hard drive
to be able to use it. Confused, I tried formatting it again and it says it was unable to format the
disk drive. Now I can't access it at all and it won't format.

hey bro. thanks for your help!!....i finally get it to format to ntfs... i used a software called
"Western Digital data lifeguard diagnostic" to repair it, but unfortunately it didn't turned out to
be completely fixed ... because i placed my hard-drive back into my computer to install win7 on
it, and it's coming with this error message code... which seems as if the harddrive has been badly
damage, its not allowing me to install win7.. (don't know why) it can only store things on it when
plug on to a external drive.. plz help!
