Donation to Queen Salote College, Tonga following devastation by Cyclone Gita.

After the decision of Directors on Tuesday to Donate $5,000, and some quick footwork by Treasurer Richard, David
Greenall made a presentation to the visiting Queen of Tonga, Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u in Melbourne on Thurs-
day.
For some time, the club has contemplated making a grant to a Special School in Tonga, following David’s visit with the
Rotary Club there, but no firm proposal had been received in the last two years.
The Directors therefore agreed on the grant to Queen Salote College, following representations by David on behalf of
the College, where Lyn Greenall has taught for short periods over the last 20+ years. The money is to be spent on li-
brary books, sewing machines, storage furniture and desks. The Queen is a past student of the College of the Free
Wesleyan Church (FWC) and asked me to convey her thanks to the Rotary Club for their generous support.
The occasion was a visit by the King and Queen to personally thank some 34 people (including David - FWC Auditor-
and Lyn – 1993-2005) who had worked for the Church in Tonga during the last 70 years.
PP David has organized other Tongan projects when he was a member of the Rotary Club of Camberwell.

Mandy is the Acting Director of Nursing at Sandringham Hospi-
tal and was at the meeting to talk about the new Day Proce-
dure Centre and thank RCOB for its donation.

Improving Surgical Services

Why a day procedure centre?
Since expanding the surgical program in 2014, Sandringham
Hospital has seen a 55 per cent increase in same day proce-
dures.
With a growing and ageing population, the need for local
healthcare is increasing.
In February 2016, a capital appeal was launched to raise $2.5
million to build a dedicated day procedure centre.
Thanks to the support of the community and state government
the $2.5 millio needed to build the day procedure centre has
been raised.
The centre will be known as the Sandringham Community
Bank Day Procedure Centre.
