P was born in Samos, i believe most of you have never heard of this place before, so do I. But it
doesn’t matter since it is still somewhere in Greece. Though P is one of the most famous Greek Geek,
he spent most of his life outside of Greece. As you all can see from the profile picture, he is holding a
pyramid on top of his palm, that’s the spin-off of 20 years of living in Egypt. To be frank, before i took
the module and research on the topic, pretty much all I know about him is that famous triangle guy.
Well, if you reside in a place staring at the pyramids for 2 decades, it is hard not to fall in love with
such engineering marvel. It is believed that P learned the rudiments of geometry from the eygptians
who discovered that a triangle whose sides have ratios of 3:4:5 always has a right angle. However, P
thinks math discoveries were a product of pure reasoning and is way more valuable than mere
observations. He then uncovered the underlying principle of all right angled triangles, the famous P
theorem the square of hypotenuse equals the sum of the squares of the other two sides. Such ethos
wields great influence on his successors and is deeply ingrained in contemporary research. One of his
greatest contribution is the discovery of relationship between numbers: ratios and proportions
