Leadership

A good Health and safety management system needs leaders who are committed for
development and sustenance of it. Senior management is committed to demonstrate visible
and felt leadership towards health and safety.
Management
A systematic approach is required to manage health and safety where risks are identified
with adequate controls and third parties including contractors adhere to same standards.
(Managing for health and safety, HSG 65, Third edition,)

Worker Involvement
An effective Health & Safety management system should enable the active participation of
company and contractor workers in the design, development, implementation, and
continuous improvement. Workforce involvement provides for a consultative relationship
between management and workers at all levels of the organization.

Competency
Competence can be described as the combination of training, skills, experience and
knowledge that a person has and their ability to apply them to perform a task safely.

Compliance
Compliance is the confirmation that a defined requirement has been met. Requirements may
be defined within policies, regulations, laws, management systems, specifications, rules,
codes, standards, processes or procedures
