Description and Teacher Directions 1. Prior to this lesson, students will have completed ten chapters of a novel that is being read by the entire class. This will allow students time to learn about the different characters in the novel. 2. The lesson will begin by assessing background knowledge on the four types of conflict in a story. Next the students will watch a PowToon Video explaining the four types of conflict. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rg_10OfdEss 3. Next the students will use a story conflict graphic organizer to write examples of each type of conflict in the story being read by the class. 4. After students complete the graphic organizer, they will use it to create an infographic on piktochart.com. Each conflict should be defined with a graphic that describes the conflict in the story along with the characters involved. Each graphic/conflict should summarize the conflict and explain in detail what is being described. The classroom is set up with tables with four students at each table. The entire lesson/assessment will be done in the classroom since students have individual laptops. Learners -- Describe the characteristics of the students, such as age, gender, race/ethnicity, exceptionalities (disability and giftedness), developmental levels, culture, language, interests, learning styles or skill levels. This is a 7th grade inclusion language arts classroom with 32 students. Students have various lexile levels from beginning reader to advanced grade level readers. There are 2 students that are ESOL students. There are 6 students with beginning reading levels. 9 students are exceeding grade level reading levels. 17 students are average readers. Students range from 12-13 years old. There are 17 females and 15 males. There are 4 African-American Students, 2 Hispanic students, 2 Indian students, and the remaining 24 students are Caucasian. Due to the diverse abilities in this classroom, the use of technology is very beneficial. Assessment Rubric Use the rubric to develop a proficient presentation for character conflict. An example of a beginning, emerging, and proficient work will be provided. The Presentation is worth 90 points for full credit. 10 bonus points are available for orally presenting your inforgraphic.
