BREAKING OFF FROM YOUR LIMITATION

Study Text: 2 Kings 6: 1 – 7

2Ki 6:1 THE SONS of the prophets said to Elisha, Look now, the place where we live before you is
too small for us.

2Ki 6:2 Let us go to the Jordan, and each man get there a [house] beam; and let us make us a
place there where we may dwell. And he answered, Go.

2Ki 6:3 One said, Be pleased to go with your servants. He answered, I will go.

2Ki 6:4 So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees.

2Ki 6:5 But as one was felling his beam, the axe head fell into the water; and he cried, Alas, my
master, for it was borrowed!

2Ki 6:6 The man of God said, Where did it fall? When shown the place, Elisha cut off a stick and
threw it in there, and the iron floated.

2Ki 6:7 He said, Pick it up. And he put out his hand and took it.

A man is limited by the picture he created for himself.

- None of us are limited in the exact same way. The issue before us is, whether we will learn
from our limitations or use them as an excuse to not reach the potential God has placed within
us.

- This chapter begins with the sons of the prophets realizing the place they had been living.
Though they were students but they have a sense of comfort.
They were not held by people’s opinion about their:

- status – students

- strength – prophets not wood workers

- Resources – they had no tool but went to borrow.

- Technical knowhow – they choose to use axe to cut a beam not machine.

- Spirituality – A prophet should pray for people to come and build for him, but they choose to
build for themselves

Qualities of Limit breakers

1. They face reality of the situation – too small They are people of faith but they apply
action to their faith. The sons of the prophet discovered that they have been limited for
many years.

2. They choose to look at realty from the angle of God - they had knowledge of expected
accommodation Daniel 11:32, Phillip 4:13

3 The Decision – they take a conscious decision to break the limits.” LET US “ 2 Kings 7:4.
Decision is the point of change. It should be:
- divinely inspired
-goal oriented
4 Determination: 2 Kings 7:5 – THEY WENT the ability to continue trying to do something,
although it is very difficult, s a positive emotional feeling that involves persevering towards a
difficult goal in spite of obstacles. Determination occurs prior to goal attainment and serves to
motivate behavior that will help achieve one's goal. Numbers 13:30

5. Eliminate Distractions - AXE HEAD FELL OFF - a thing that prevents someone
from concentrating on something else. s the process of diverting the attention of an
individual or group from a desired area of focus and thereby blocking or diminishing the
reception of desired information. Keep off anything that will take your mind away from
the reality of your goal. Luke 10:38-42 (mary and matha), Genesis 11:31 (Terah)
Distractions and frustrations will come but choose to focus on the ball.

How Do I Break the Yoke of Limitation?

Overcoming the forces of limitation does not depend on God alone. The
responsibilities are laid on you and me; it is a matter of choice.
“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has
overcome the world ; our faith ”. {1st John 5: 4-5}

Man that was born of woman is full of trouble but he that was born of
God overcomes the world. Here comes the issue of ‘source’ where you
come from determine who you are; who you are determined what will
happen to you if you are still a family of Adam. Your victory is thing of
a dream.
1. Have a consistent relationship with God.
2. Read, study and meditate the word of God and God’s destiny for your
life. (Rom. 10: 17, 2Tim. 2: 15, John 1: 8)
3. Define your purpose of existence and discover your place in destiny
then you follow it with all your strength.
4. Give yourself to prayer and fasting, in your prayer ask God to reveal the
misery behind your lineage and the solution
5. Give yourself to hard work and commitment, be thirsty to get more
information and make best use of each all.
6. Don’t be satisfied about your present position, dream high and work
towards greatness.
7. Draw your strength from the fountain of life Jesus Christ and do not trust
your own ability.
